@gitlab.com , you should take over the site. Or make one in the same vein. The "99 bottles of beer" program is simply the best program to illustrate basic language features such as I/O, looping, and conditionals.

I stand by my opinion. I'm going to die on this hill. STOP . MAKING . "Hello, world!" 99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beer, you take one down and pass it around, 98 bottles of beer on the wall. 98 bottles of beer on the wall, 98 bottles of beer ... #Programming #ProgrammingLanguage

Damn, this made me chuckle.😆
barbwritesstuff: I have learnt today that my library refers to me as "the specific and highly active user" and has denied some of my purchase requests because "we can't skew the collection too much toward the taste of the specific and highly active use."

I did suggest roughly 100 vampire books for purchase last year. I think this probably has something to do with that.

Dragon-in-a-fez: op is there any particular reason the librarians would feel safer not invoking you by name?

So why isn't Fox news televising interviews of all the happy people who live near data centers so we can hear what a treat it is to live with the constant noise, lights, increased utility costs and non-existent new jobs?

It seems asking people to think on their own is today such a difficult challenge. #ArtificialIntelligence ? More like #ArtificialUnIntelligent #MicrosoftCopilot #Copilot
A screenshot of the article, saying "Sheesh - if you're going to have to actually *read* that stuff, you might as well just cut Copilot out of the loop and do the thinking yourself."

Shouldn't need to worry It's "Local Privilege Escalation" meaning: Someone needs to login to your system first. A.I. here helps in finding hard to discover vulnerabilities. End result? Linux becomes more and more secure.

pepoluan @pepoluan.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
In this case, A.I. speeds up the fix. It's good to have an automated system to find vulnerabilities. Plus, the vulnerability requires "Local Access" It's not remotely-exploitable. For a personal system, that no one else is using, this vuln is not really concerning. #Linux

The former only shows I/O to console. The latter: - Shows iteration - Shows decision (if..then) - Shows string building - Shows I/O to console Isn't it much better more basic mechanisms shown?

I do prefer it that way. Not because of gatekeeping, but because despite the polish, CachyOS is still Arch. And Arch is really not a distro for newbies. When someone's reached at least intermediate level with Linux, then they'll naturally discover CachyOS and we'll welcome them.

So, the conclusion: #CachyOS is NOT for Linux newbies BUT It is for #ArchLinux newbies. #Linux

pepoluan @pepoluan.bsky.social · 17/07/2026
The point I was trying to make is that CachyOS does not hide the underlying complexity of Arch Linux. It just provides assistance. You can still go down into the trenches armed with an Arch Linux wiki and do things you want.

I wouldn't say less reliable, unless there's a clear statistics. But definitely more expensive, and requires more footprint in the area of operation. Anything can be made super reliable if lots of redundancies are put in which make them even more expensive.

As a 'narration', probably good. As a 'game' though... It's more "A movie where the audience can participate sometimes"

pepoluan @pepoluan.bsky.social · 28/05/2026
It ain't a game. There ain't a game in it. It's a movie with some viewer participation, period.

PS: Apparently, this is just a myth. The reality: Bees will keep delivering until they drop dead of exhaustion. When their old bodies no longer able to extract enough energy to keep on living. I don't know if that's better or worse than the myth.

Well, forensic facial reconstruction is based on the known, still living examples. That's why they know how high the flesh needs to be built up for key bone positions. Palaeontologists don't have such luxury so they build up the flesh speculatively based on other species of the same family.

Plus, You can easily check/validate the final rendered state file Just run the file through a Jinja2 renderer Then run the result through a YAML parser No need to re-implement Ansible's "special workarounds" to handle repetitions.
000
pepoluan @pepoluan.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
I personally find SaltStack's approach to be both more intuitive and more powerful. An advantage (among many): Can easily repeat and customize states from dict.items
100
pepoluan @pepoluan.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
The difference between #Ansible 's YAML, and #SaltStack 's YAML, is in the rendering process. In Ansible, the YAML is parsed first, then every value is Jinja2-rendered. In SaltStack, the file is Jinja2-rendered first, then it is parsed as a pure YAML. #DevOps #CICD
