It’s very quiet on the “universal basic income” front these days. I’d say AI is going to replace what were mostly tedious jobs, but at least you could make a living. I don’t see where the replacement jobs are going to come from.

Radar image of Tuesday's mass crane migration. A 100 km long line of migrating cranes was clearly visible on weather radar. It is estimated that around 10,000 (?) cranes were involved in that formation. The highest count observed was 26,000 migrating cranes on that day in Kangasala (near Tampere).

A true world divide
A world map infographic comparing annual per capita consumption of coffee versus tea, with countries shaded brown where coffee is consumed more and teal where tea is consumed more. Large swaths of the globe including most of Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the UK are shown preferring tea, while North America, most of South America, much of Europe including Scandinavia, and Australia are shaded for coffee. The split shows clear regional trends: coffee dominates in the Americas, Northern and Central Europe, and Australia, while tea dominates in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. The map is titled “COFFEE VS TEA What’s consumed more in cups per year,” with a key identifying coffee in brown and tea in teal, and cites Statista as the source. At the bottom is the logo for The World in Maps.

All of those events often compound over time, resulting in more work pressures in my experience. Management making unreasonable demands, causing low morale. When a talented colleague jumps ship, that is often the time to take action.

If I were to go into formal education now, I’d choose an art subject solely because it interests me. As for job prospects they used to say the arts were at the bottom of the scale, but I’m not so sure in the age of AI. Creative thinking is something a human will always have superiority over AI.

I went big into AI when the company started pushing it over a year ago. I got noticed, as I was one of the heaviest users in the company. I’m 60 now and will likely hang around for a while yet. The biggest employment risk I see is if we sell out to a big US company.

idk if it is just this company, or generally a Finnish thing, but the culture is very take risks and try stuff out. There is no fallout whatsoever if stuff fails, as long as you learn from it.
