Em but spooky @etherealwill.bsky.social · 4h

If you're looking for something spooky to read this evening, you might enjoy this Yuri-centered fic where he investigates Count Varley. I wrote it for last year's Fódlan Frights! ~7.5k, rated M. A little niche, maybe, but I had fun with it! #FE3H archiveofourown.org/works/72771311

Blighted Legacy
EtherealWill
Summary:

Yuri made the lonely trek up the long road leading into the Varley estate on a young silver-coated mare, carrying only a few personal effects. He squinted into the haze with some concern; it shouldn't be this foggy in the afternoon. The grounds had changed quite a bit over the years: instead of the lush sea of reds and burnt orange he expected to see near the end of the Wyvern Moon, the trees surrounding him appeared half dead, rotting from the inside, branches twisting as if they were under duress. There were no cardinals singing or raccoons foraging. Instead, an oppressive silence wrapped its tendrils around everything, threatening to strangle anything in sight. Yuri felt a chill run through him, though whether from the odious atmosphere or the chilly, whispery breeze that somehow cut through his cape, he couldn't say.

Yuri suspected with an ache felt deep within his bones that Rhea's intuition was correct: something was wrong here.

Agreed about people leaning into metrics,, which is so weird IMO. Every artist is so different, trying to apply metrics would be an impossible task anyway. I get that having unlimited options / paths you can take seems daunting, but I think part of being an artist is accepting

it's time to blast off 🚀 the first four chapters of my @bluelionsbb.bsky.social fic are now up! #fe3h archiveofourown.org/works/792700... I'm so happy to finally share this story 🥹 I'll be posting an update every 3-4 days until it's done; they'll be linked in the thread below ⬇️

116k words | 11 chapters | M

When the Royal Fleet faces a surprise attack from the Agarthans, Sylvain Gautier escapes as its sole survivor. Aiding his retreat is Dorothea Arnault, a famous songstress living a double life as a spy. Sylvain finds himself drawn to Dorothea and the mysterious mission pitting her against their mutual enemy—as well as her anybody for his Relic ship, Ruin, despite lacking a Crest.

Ingrid Galatea chases a myth in search of a weapon capable of ending a war. Her penchant for righteousness leads her to Mercedes Martritz, a local tavernkeep who's being blackmailed by a sinister crime syndicate. Together, they skim the surface of an unimaginable conspiracy.

ANGEL OF THE GARLAND MOON M | 12k | dorocedes | post-AM a carmilla-inspired gothic horror story written for this year’s femslash exchange, ft. mercedes, vampire!dorothea, and a jerk who gets what’s coming to him archiveofourown.org/works/880915...

10th of the Verdant Rain Moon, 1188

Dearest Emile,

Permit me first to apologize—it has been some time since my last letter. By now news has surely reached Adrestia and you would have heard, without my telling, of the misfortune that has befallen Baron Pryderi’s estate. Please know you wouldn’t need fear for me. I am yet alive, and am in good physical health. I ought to have written right away, and would have, had I the presence of mind to do so. But the events of past weeks have been so trying as to defy comprehension, let alone belief, and I have not had opportunity to sort them for myself, much less put them to paper. I managed only to write the barest of greetings to Mother after all transpired and have answered no mail since. She intends to visit. Goddess forgive my perfidy. I know not what I shall tell her, only that it shall not be the same as what I intend to tell you.

A LAPSE — A KINDNESS M | 3k | edelgrid | ambiguous route not a horror story per se, but a dark encounter between edelgard and ingrid. character study by way of woundfucking archiveofourown.org/works/88742156

$The fractured limb upon which the Faerghan general is impaled is tragically within reach of the forest floor, yet just too high off the ground for her to stand. The strain of such a wound would see her death in minutes, if not the gravity of it; it’s fortunate that Edelgard has found her so quickly, but Galatea has never known what’s good for her. The fool lifts the lance she’s clung to harder than her own sense, just so Edelgard can push it aside. “Surrender,” Edelgard says, as greeting. “Never,” Galatea rasps back. Her spit is hot on Edelgard’s cheek, but Edelgard’s blood runs hotter, and her mask is practiced and perfect. “You don’t need to die this way, Ingrid.” She steps closer, dangerously close, not that Galatea could do anything even if she could reach. “Surrender.”$

Image is taken from an Onion article about Jesus, and has Cai from Fire Emblem drawn over Jesus’s face. Text says “Report reveals Hell’s Eye Cai may have benefited from parents’ influential position to gain high-powered role as lord and savior”. Cai’s hands are holding two screenshots from the game. One says “Special request from mom” and has the Dragoon class as a reward. The other says “Special request from pop” and has the Caladrius class as a reward.

Le Guin on the idea that there is a secret to getting good at writing.

I will dispose of the first myth as quickly as possible. The “secret” is skill. If you haven’t learned how to do something, the people who have may seem to be magicians, possessors of mysterious secrets. In a fairly simple art, such as making pie crust, there are certain teachable “secrets” of method that lead almost infallibly to good results; but in any complex art, such as housekeeping, piano-playing, clothes-making, or story-writing, there are so many techniques, skills, choices of method, so many variables, so many “secrets,” some teachable and some not, that you can learn them only by methodical, repeated, long-continued practice — in other words, by work.
