#onthisday 1977, @cityofmississauga.bsky.social 's city hall renamed its Confederation Square to Robert W. Speck Civic Square. Named for a former mayor, his widow Enid Speck was there to receive the honour. Mayor Ron Searle is left. City Hall moved in 1987.

Groundhog Day was created in 1886 in the US, an update of Candlemas. The first mention in #Brampton 's The Conservator newspaper was in 1893, but it wasn't mentioned again until 1938.

Before he was an icon of Canadian television on @tvotoday.bsky.social, "Saturday Night at the Movies" host Elwy Yost had a column in AVRO Newsmagazine. He worked in their personnel department from 1953 until 1959.

In 1894 a young girl memorialized her visit to the site of the Battle of Queenston Heights. Major-General Sir Isaac Brock died in this 1812 victory against invading Americans which helped establish Canadian self-identity. Mary Manning fonds, Region of Peel Archives.
