Counting down to when I get to talk to folks about media and open education. For those of you just joining, did you know you could take college classes with zero textbook or materials cost?
I'm presenting at oe global conference 2026

I'm on team crunchy and juicy. If it's too mealy, like a mac or a jonagold, it's great for applesauce, but not for eating off the tree. Most of my apples are for packed lunches, so it also has to taste OK at room temp.

Local heirloom apple fest did not disappoint with the variety of offerings this year. It would be difficult to ship these before they rot.
A scorecard for variety of heirloom apples. Boxes are checked for the good, the meh, and the bad.

My retirement dream of pooling money with friends and moving to a ghost town where we can trade services and goods with each other is really the only viable option at this point.

Excited to share a ginger gold with the author of Black River Orchard @chuckwendig.bsky.social. It's always a pleasure to meet someone else who isn't afraid to pick a random fruit off a tree they just found.

so i guess this morning i am just kind of meditating on the fact that when you reject AI as a creator you are not just bringing things back to the baseline, you are actually PUSHING in the other direction. you are opening space for human joy and creation and even income and that is so cool

this guy gets it
Listen to this king at a Huntington City Council meeting on Flock Cameras:

"I'm not gonna waste your time, I'm kinda hungry, but one last thing. Every single Flock camera has about 2-3 lbs of copper and about 1-2 grams of gold. Do with that information what you will."

I would definitely put Hot Fuzz on my list of "movies that are perfect." Did exactly what it came to do. Hit hard. Hilarious. No jokes wasted, and EVERYTHING is better the second and even better the hundredth time you see it.

I'm not trying to change your mind, but I want to present the Epson ecotank. We often print stickers at home w/ our own art to celebrate personal events like gatherings or show off trends we're into. It would be more costly to do regular small batch sticker print through a service than own a printer

I definitively stumbled upon a secret anime watching group in my college dorm. We had bootleg dubs on VHS. You could not talk about anime watching group. You did not want anyone to know except the people who were already there and anyone who solved the clues to get there. This was 1999.

Tornado conditions vs. Tornado present. Why are we using two words that start with W when we have a whole vocabulary of words that would be a lot easier to differentiate?

We have ideas of whether or not people with different beliefs will be welcomed to a blue/red state, varying by the state. In a situation where you'd be othered, I think it's easier for some people to feel victimized than for others to step into potential harm/verbal abuse for a long-term vote cause.

Dems could do the same with states like Wyoming. It would take less than 500 people to flip enough counties to turn the state.

People who struggled with reading because of dyslexia or other reasons may also come back to the idea of books by reading with audiobooks. There's so much unnecessary stigma. If you're spending time with a text, critical thinking, developing thoughts about it, discussing it, you're doing the goal.

They created an EV Hub in Ohio that's being used to make more vehicles that use gasoline. It's a shame there's so way to pull their building incentives for the bait and switch of their real manufacturing purpose.

Check your area's community college library. Many offer the same or similar access to databases for district residents of the county as they do students at the college.

i really wish veggies would be the star of the show more often in western cuisine. like, there are so many more flavors and textures, and unfathomably delicable experiences that are achievable through a well prepared vegetable than could ever be achieved with meat alone

If you liked the movie Once that was popular and won an academy for its song 19 years ago, you'll like this film. If you did not, then skip this one. It is the story about how transcendent it can be making music vs the reality of making it in music.

Have you considered machine embroidery around the holes? If a thread comes loose, it could be a sensory nightmare during an event. It would also guarantee the same size mouth hole each make. Are you using fray check for current build masks?

I think there are certainly some references that don't hit with younger folks (e.g. Nancy Reagan in Revenging Angel), but I'm not sure that matters to be immersed in the story. One of my fav episodes.

I also think about Allie Brosh out there somewhere still drawing and writing. I hope she knows we all think she's amazing and agree that self-care and mental health are more important than fame. Maybe one day she'll do another book, but if not, that's OK, too.

This seems to be the universal trend with municipal billing interfaces. My city started a new software this year and somehow it is worse than the terrible one we just got rid of, a new layer of the bottom of the barrel that no one knew existed.
