Wow, this brought back long-forgotten memories not only of the movie itself, but also of trying to play the movie tie-in video game on the Amiga 500. I don't think I ever made it past the chase scene in the cemetery at the beginning of the game.

Spent some time liberating the zippers from a few of those plastic zippered bags that new bed sheets come in. I like to reuse them when I'm making bags or purses that need a zipper.

Goodbye, Chaos. You were absolutely the best cat who ever chose us as family. Thank you for the last fifteen years. You will be deeply, deeply missed 💔
A pale orange striped cat with yellow/green eyes sits on the corner of a blue couch. His tail is wrapped around his front legs, and he is wearing a green collar with a fish-shaped tag. Next to him is a tall real peacock feather and some shorter decorative plastic glittery peacock feathers.

Made a simple tote bag for someone who loves all things Disney. All the fabric was thrifted: a sweatshirt, a pair of bright red jeans, and a small bit of polka dot fabric someone had donated. No pattern this time, I just used my knowledge gained from experience...I'm learning! Yay! 😄
A tote bag measuring roughly 13"x11"x3" lays on a brown table. The image on the front of the tote bag is an outline of Mickey Mouse colored in with thin parallel lines. The sides and handles of the bag are bright red to match Mickey's shorts.Same image of the front of the bag but with one handle pulled down to show a peek of red polka dots on white fabric which is the lining. The back of the tote bag reads, "The Original Mickey Mouse". "The Original" is printed with solid bright red letters, and "Mickey Mouse" is black outlines shaded with thin black stripes.

Digital portrait of everyone’s favorite Cenobite, Pinhead, from the Hellraiser movies. A totally bald guy with a sickly greenish-grayish-white corpsey skin tone who has a neat grid of red incisions cut into his face and a large silver pin driven in at every intersection. He has a black but still grim expression. There’s an impression of hanging chains in the darkness behind him. Set of against the shiny black high-necked garment he’s wearing is some tall and narrow lettering in red reading ‘Maybe it will happen today’.

A digital illustration of the Doof Warrior from Mad Max: Fury Road. He’s a guy in a red union suit wearing a strange shapeless leather mask/helmet thing. He’s playing a jerry-rigged double-necked guitar made out of junk and spare parts that includes a flamethrower between the two necks which is currently throwing flames. He is suspended in a dramatic jumping pose by some bungee cords I didn’t actually draw in, in front of a huge stack of implied amps and speakers which, if you look hard enough, are actually the words ‘Maybe it will happen today’.

Finished the chainmail dice bag for my daughter's teacher, and also made a sun catcher for one of her other teachers. At first I worried an all bright aluminum dice bag would be boring, but I really like it. Also love the color combo on the suncatcher; I might need to make me a necklace just like it
Two works of chainmail sit on a dark brown table. The item on the left is a dice bag made of all bright aluminum rings in a European 4in1 pattern. There is a black cord at the top which cinches the dice bag shut. The item on the right is a suncatcher with a 2" teardrop-shaped crystal at the bottom of roughly 7" of JPL3 weave made with alternating brown and green rings.

My daughter's teacher loves D&D, so what better end of year thank you gift than a chainmail dice bag. I genuinely enjoy making these bags, but now that the base is done I'm on to the tedious part...around and around until it's at the right depth. I take _so_ many breaks at this stage.
A round section of bright aluminum chainmail is laying on a grey-blue gridded work surface. The round section is roughly 4.5" in diameter. On the upper right of the work surface, 40 open chainmail rings are laid out in five columns ready to be woven around the edge of the already woven section. On the upper left of the work surface is the upturned green lid of a reused mayonnaise jar. There are several unopened chainmail rings in the lid. Next to the lid is the reused mayo jar holding all the rest of the rings. The label on the jar reads, "Chainmail Joe Bright Aluminum Jump Rings 14AWG/16SWG 5/16"ID 1 pound (3,000+ rings)". No, I will not be using all 3,000 rings, but rather around another 400 or so :)

For Mom's birthday I made her a bag using scraps from the quilt I made her for Christmas. She loves both the quilt and the bag, but honestly? I think I like the bag better.
A fabric bag roughly 11" by 9" by 7" sitting on a dark brown table. The bag is made from blue-on-white Blue Willow-style fabric scraps. The front pocket has smaller scraps in various geometric shapes patchworked together, while the main body of the bag has larger, mostly square or rectangular scraps also patchworked. Solid blue fabric is used on the bottom, top border, inside lining, and for the straps. The solid blue fabric on the bottom is quilted with white thread in diamond shapes.A fabric bag roughly 11" by 9" by 7" sitting on a dark brown table. My second public bellydance performance since 2019. Not only was it for the residents of an assisted living facility, it was at my mom's ALF 🥰 The residents and staff were delighted we were there, and we are honored to have danced for them. Dancing at retirement/ALFs is such a joy!

When I'm learning a new weave, I find a suncatcher is the way to go rather than a bracelet (I rarely wear bracelets). Learned the Kyy weave, and I kinda love it. It looks more complicated than it is, and it weaves up quickly. Now to find a window space in which to hang it :)
A suncatcher on a brown table. It is roughly 8" of the chainmail weave Kyy, which consists of smaller rings alternating between left-leaning and right-leaning, and in a rainbow pattern. Around and through the smaller rings are larger rings of bright aluminum, also alternating between left-leaning and right-leaning. At the bottom of the chain is a 3/4" glass crystal pendant.A close up of the Kyy weave.

Made some mug rugs as a gift for one of my daughter's teachers who's really into D&D. They're a little wonky, but I learned a lot. I find stitching through the images in the middle a little distracting, so next time I'll stitch-in-the-ditch. Already planning on making more for our gaming table :)
Four hexagonal mug rugs on a brown table. They measure 8" from point to point. The center sections depict various generic fantasy characters. Surrounding the characters are fabrics depicting chainmail, cartoony D&D monsters, potion bottles, and dice. The border is black with bits of color from the images on the back folded over onto the front. The fabric on the back of these oversized coasters is the very last of my dragon fabric...a black background with purple, brown, and blue dragons in full, and the hint of a green wing and a gold tail coming into frame.

I don't quilt, but for some reason I decided my mother needed a rag quilt. Turned out fine (and she loves it), but cutting ~200 squares drove me up the wall. Will I make another? Not anytime soon. Learned a lot, though, and my already great respect for quilters and their art has only increased.
The quilt front, draped over a dark blue couch. It is 8 squares across by 8 squares down, all made with fabric that has that blue-on-white Blue Willow-style pattern. The quilt measures roughly 60"x60". The seams where the squares meet are intentionally frayed and have a fluffy look and feel. The back of the quilt, draped over a dark blue couch. The lower left corner of the quilt has been folded up so the front is visible. The back is made from a thrifted set of flannel bed sheets that are also in that blue-on-white Blue Willow-style design. The seams where the squares meet are smooth as all the edges are sewn to the front of the quilt. The middle layer of the quilt is also made from the same thrifted flannel bed sheets.

Our "Dark Shadows" rewatch is going slower than we'd like because life keeps getting in the way, but we're almost to Barnabas! I'd forgotten how the first actor who played Willie Loomis did such a good job portraying him as so utterly sleazy. He totally makes my skin crawl!

A friend commissioned a 30" continuous Byzantine chain for the pendant he bought over the summer. Mangled the hell out of the final ring up towards the top because the space was too tight for even my smallest pliers 🙁 Thankfully it doesn't show, and grateful that my friend doesn't mind.

The chain is a mix of bright aluminum and stormy grey, and the pendant on the bottom is a 1" diameter coin embossed with a bear head.Closeup of the Byzantine chainmail weave necklace and the 1" diameter coin pendants embossed with a bear head. Continuing our Dark Shadows rewatch and had to pause during an episode. We hit the pause button as Laura Collins (the Phoenix) was sitting in front of a fireplace, and noticed we just happened to catch the flames in a vague phoenix shape. A fun coincidence; couldn't have timed it better! 😄
Photo taken of our tv screen: a black-and-white image of actress Diana Millay reading a book in front of a large fireplace on the set of "Dark Shadows" from 1967. Her character is a phoenix-type being who dies by fire every 100 years and is reborn. When we hit the pause button, the flames of the roaring fire she was sitting in front of just happened to take the shape of what looks like a small figure of a person with wings outspread.

Made a couple of bracelets as teacher thank yous, each in a color scheme the teachers like. I always panic a little when making bracelets as gifts for other people, because I have to guess at how big to make them and worry they won't fit. At least the one on the left is stretchy...
Two chainmail bracelets sitting on a wooden table. The bracelet on the left is made with bright aluminum jump rings and green, blue, and black stretchy rubber rings, and is woven in the Box Weave pattern. The bracelet on the right is made with bright aluminum jump rings with bright yellow and pale green beads, and is woven in the Beaded Shaggy Loops pattern.

(Kinda blurry) close ups of the two most recent necklaces I made using kits from Blue Buddha Boutique. I'm going to offer them to my daughter's school for their yearly auction (last year I made dice bags). Pastels are generally not my thing, but I'm really loving BBB's pastel rings.
A section of a necklace woven in a weave called JPL. It is black, grey, and silvery, and the three colors gently spiral around themselves. Not pictured: matching 1" long earrings.A section of a necklace woven in a weave called JPL. Made myself another 18th century-style pocket, this time with the vintage fabrics from a charm pack from @stephaniecanada.bsky.social 's www.backroomfinds.com . Everything but the sashing is vintage fabric, and I've got enough squares left to make at least two more pockets in different color ways 😄
An 18th century-style tie-on pocket laying on a brown table. I used a quilting technique to make the bits of fabric look like mosaic or stained glass. The fabric colors are mostly light blues and purples, with some yellow, pink, and orange sprinkled in. There is white ribbon sashing bordering each fabric piece, and the binding and ties are also white. The pocket measures 14" long, 7.25" at the top and tapering out to 10" at the widest part along the bottom. The pocket opening is 7".

Applying bias binding and lost a game of bobbin chicken <5" away from the finish line. Refilled the bobbin and finished sewing only to hate how it looked. Ripped the whole thing off and will start over. I know I'm still very much a beginner, but thus far bias binding and I do not get along at all.
