This is the way! (I gotta say, the texture of what this guy had going tonight made it look like the weirdest, most off-putting chocolate mousse.)

I just watched someone order Shepard's Pie and when it came to the table stick a spoon in the middle and mix it all together into a soupy concoction before eating it, and I have never been more horrified.

Just watched COCO (again) with my mom. What a great, great movie. Imagine getting mad a Pixar for telling stories like this. Imagine getting mad about stories of other cultures and traditions. Must be fucking exhausting being the kind of an asshole that gets angry over these things.

I had a student hug me goodbye "just in case" because he and his family have an immigration appointment on Monday and they could be deported back to their home country, where he's convinced he'll end up murdered on the street. So anyway, fuck this.

The thing is, if these guys are going to take money from the betting apps, then they better not be the ones complaining about vitriol and threats they get from gamblers who are mad they cost them money. Does that suck and is it wrong? Yes. Are they promoting apps creating this hostility? Also yes.

The Cornell story is horrific, but I’d like to shine a light on what happened at LSU with a current football player on the team:
In July, the school found Shanklin responsible for "forcible rape" and issued a one-year suspension, which is a full ban from campus and activities, according to documents reviewed by ESPN. After Shanklin appealed, an administrative law judge who handles appeals per LSU policy upheld the finding that the athlete was responsible for "forcible rape," but reduced the punishment to four semesters of probation with no restrictions, which allows Shanklin to remain enrolled and on campus and to participate in activities as long as he stays out of trouble.

Oh change your name to "sea lion clubber" why don't you?! 😜 (But yes I agree, dam removal is really, really politically difficult, but it's been really cool to read about how well it's worked in Southern Oregon with the Klamath River Dam removal, so hopefully it becomes a political winner soon.)

She also adjusted her pace to ensure the injured cub could keep up. By 2008, he was observed hunting on his own & at the age of 20 is King of the Fat Bears, holding his own at the crowded Brook Falls. A story of a mother's love, sacrifice & a little cub who became a champion fat bear. 🥹

Here's Backpack as a yearling in 2007, unable to put weight on the injured paw. Holly took her cub & moved upriver, away from aggressive bears who might harm him at Brooks Falls. Fishing was harder for the pair, and she risked both of them struggling or starving, but he was SAFE.
Backpack in 2007, nursing an injured paw that is turned under, so that he can't put any weight on it. If you're wondering why they didn't provide vet care, it's their policy not to interfere when an injury is natural and not caused by human activity.

I think this photo is by David Kopshever, National Park Service? It's on a blog linked below.

Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.
From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

The title of the article, which I link below, is "How Bear 89 earned the name Backpack"

This is the most important thing men can do, and they must be doing it immediately. People create culture. People can change it. If you can't remember the last time you created some social awkwardness by telling another man to stop with that shit, you probably aren't pulling your weight.

The GOP cut funding to the IRS because *audits work* and they fundamentally don't believe rich people should have to play by the rules.
Line chart titled "Revenue per audit," subtitled "In-person audits, 2010-2014." It plots average revenue and average cost per audit by taxpayer income percentile, poorer to richer, from the 0–5th percentile to the top 0.1%. Source: Boning et al. 2023, "A Welfare Analysis of Tax Audits Across the Income Distribution."

Across the bottom half of the income distribution, revenue and cost track closely, both around $3,000–$6,000 per audit. Above the median, revenue pulls ahead of cost: about $10,000 vs. $5,000 near the 90th percentile, and about $17,000 vs. $8,000 at the 95th–99th. At the top, revenue jumps to about $31,000 for the 99–99.9th percentile and about $90,000 for the top 0.1%.

For those not following, there’s a city in Russia occupied Ukraine near the frontline cut off from everywhere by mines and torn up roads, the people who haven’t been able to evacuate have only food they can grow themselves or have been rationing for a year, and Russia does not care.

My problem is apologies that include something like "this is not who I am/we are," and/or "this is not reflective of my character." Okay, so........then how did this happen? Because conscious choices were made! This is who you are because it's a choice you made to behave that way!

The likelihood that Riley and Stephens actually wrote these out themselves is miniscule. Riley probably saw both statements to approve, but I'm betting Stephens didn't even read his before it getting sent out on his behalf. (And there's no apology for the play, just the reaction after)
