Further reply, abridged: “For a non-Jew to write this really isn’t ok— you don’t get to pick good Jews and bad Jews. What if I wrote “I hope all the Christians I don’t like/who do bad things due?” (By the way, that number is way bigger than the number of Jews doing bad things now and for all of history.) My uncle is in hospice. I am heartbroken. It doesn't matter how old people are, there is never enough time with people you love. And knowing my dad has just -- probably a week more of their daily talks-- he was not supposed to outlive his brother.

My dad is almost 101. He reads the Times cover Every single day he talks to his "baby brother," who is 97. My uncle has had a cascade of "medical events" and it is looking really bad, and -- I think I would rather lose my father than tell him his brother is gone. Heartbroken.

I was sloppy. I saw a headline and panicked. He cut down cherry trees, but not all the tidal basin cherry trees, different ones. He's still a monster and I hope he dies soon, I've given up on the prison option, my preference, but he hasn't done this (yet). I'm sorry for causing sadness.

Heartbroken about the cherry trees. Again, I know what he does to people is even worse, but to cut down 115 year old trees, the White House, the Kennedy Center, the grotesque arch -- the aesthetic assaults and the fact that people just go along really hurt. Which is what he wants.

I went to dinner with a few neighbors and the one sitting opposite me announced 5 min into dinner that she has shingles. I had a very mild case, 15 years ago, and both vaccines. But should a person with shingles and only 1.5 days of antivirals be eating in a restaurant?
