My number 1 fatigue at work right now? Reading documentation written by AI. Page after page after page of redundant words, pretentious phrasing, verbose jargon. GIVE IT TO ME STRAIGHT. I'm nauseated.

"machines can generate meaning" - writes Marche. I will have to ask a machine to explain his piece to me, then. Because, for the life of me, I cannot make any sense of it.

I wrote a novel using AI. Writers must accept artificial intelligence – but we are as valuable as ever | Stephen Marche

This is the dumbest thing I have ever read. How can you possibly think the point is about enjoying content or not? I have myself enjoyed things that I later on discovered were 100% AI written. Point is: my view of those creators is ruined and I cannot trust them, no matter how much I try or want to.

I honestly suspect that he vacillates like this in order to push what people will accept as a norm. The news cycle has moved on from him kidnapping the president of Venezuela, or threatening to invade Greenland, or colonizing Palestine or— it’s not distraction. It’s abuser behaviour.

Members of Congress in both parties welcomed President Trump’s announcement Tuesday night of cease-fire between the United States and Iran, but Democrats continued to raise grave questions about the path forward after weeks of war without congressional authorization.

We took a really wrong turn when starting to think of computing "effiency" in terms of human effort (LLMs, "vibe coding", etc.) rather that computational resources (i.e. algorithm design and optimization). Why did the field of Computing Science allow this to pass?

"Can" relates to the competence of the person relied on, “try” to her intentions: the person relies on must have some capacity to complete the relevant action, and she must intend to do so.

This is such an interesting perspective. Go read the article, it's absolutely worth it. "to rely on someone to perform some action is to be disposed to act and believe under the assumption that this person can and tries to complete this action. /

I love the university world. And I hate it at the same time. Can we do something different altogether? How could we fund this something else? What can we build from the bottom? I have little answers, but these are the questions I'd like to hear and talk about.
000
Paola Masuzzo @pcmasuzzo.bsky.social · 18/09/2025
This makes a lot of sense. But I'm also really talking about challenging the status quo and presenting, wherever possible, alternative spaces and methodologies for research practices. /

Paola Masuzzo @pcmasuzzo.bsky.social · 17/09/2025
So the question today - like on a lot of days - is: what's the most important thing you could be working on right now? Or talking about right now? And if you are not doing it, then what are you doing? #OpenScience cannot mean what it meant 10 years ago.

Paola Masuzzo @pcmasuzzo.bsky.social · 17/09/2025
#Research was supposed to save us. It's clear, to me, that it failed miserably. It just can't do it anymore. Not in its current shape and terms. And these terms aren't bound to change any time soon. /

This is me urging #OpenScience and #OpenData advocates and activists out there to change the conversation. It's 2025 and the world is burning alive. Metaphorically and not. /

Paola Masuzzo @pcmasuzzo.bsky.social · 17/09/2025
We talked about it all. We've been talking about it for decades. Things that were bound to shift, shifted. And things that didn't, aren't going to shift anymore. And this is not me being pessimistic, no. /

Paola Masuzzo @pcmasuzzo.bsky.social · 17/09/2025
We talked about licenses, preprints, repositories, #OpenAccess. We talked about changing the rewarding system, building spaces to enable good practices, better practices. /

Paola Masuzzo @pcmasuzzo.bsky.social · 17/09/2025
Not that I don't appreciate people speaking up for #OpenScience, but I can't help but notice that a lot of the advocacy nowadays looks exactly what it looked like 5 or perhaps even 10 years ago. /
