A fantastic book I highly recommend 💜 Explores the wilder, less-seen side of the world. Engaging and full of heart - makes me want to be a Cryptonaturalist! 🧙🏼‍♂️Contains so many details that make me want to learn more about this world the author has constructed! 🍀 Strange Animals by Jarod K. Last year, President Trump allowed polluting facilities to exempt themselves from clean air standards that protect public health by simply sending an email. This is another glaring example of the Trump administration putting our health at risk to line Big Polluters’ pockets.

This 3-inch desert tortoise (the tiniest tort I've seen in the wild) was dubbed "Pippin" by our naturalists at the Desert Tortoise Research Natural Area. We've spotted several juveniles this year - great news for this endangered species. (Yes, the burrow is a bit messy, but Pippin is just a kid.) 🌿🐢
A photo of a baby wild desert tortoise in the entrance of its burrow. The tortoise is gray and brown, and about half visible. There are lots of dry seeds and sticks in front of the tortoise.

Composer John Ireland (1879-1962) was inspired to compose ‘Le catioroc’ by Le Trepied Dolmen on Guernsey, where he believed Pan had been worshipped. For Ireland, Pan embodied ‘a world of hidden, forbidden beauty connected with Nature.’

Steller sea lions are the largest member of the family Otariidae, the “eared seals.” They're also one of the species threatened by the Trump's latest push to open more than 100 million acres off the coast of #Alaska to highly destructive seabed mining. Take action 👉 bit.ly/3OQcITX

The beauty of Imbolc is how it lights a small flame, kindling hope and warmth, in the depths of a lingering winter. These days can be dark, cold, and challenging. Brigid reminds us to notice the small signs of Spring, and keep our heart's fire burning. /|\ #Pagan #Brigid #Imbolc #BeTheChange
A silver light rises off a pewter cross of St. Brigid (also a symbol of the Goddess Brigid and an example of where Christian and Pagan can unite in love and light) brightening the wall of red brick where it sits above the altar on my fireplace mantle.

Volunteer at a community garden, homeless shelter, just something. Something where you are in service of others. It doesn’t have to start out at “revolution”. It’s about each of us creating tiny revolutions within ourselves, so it can lead to a big collective one.

Buckwheat was new to me when I moved to the west coast. It was love at first sight for these 1" ball-shaped clusters of tiny flowers on delicate stems. This one is being pollinated by a gorgon copper butterfly. #ArtAdventCalendar #nativeplants #flowers #flowerphotography #California 🌿
Buckwheat (Eriogonum species) flowers are round clusters of tiny, individual flowers. This one, likely a cultivated version, is white and pink with red markings. The cluster is being visited by a gray gorgon copper butterfly (Lycaena gorgon) which has black markings surrounded by white and orange markings on the lower wing flanked by black.
