That's insane. Not even just for the homeless. If someone's drunk too much at the bar, I want them sleeping it off in their car, not driving home because a DUI is treated as the lesser offence.

It seems unthinkable, but could a PM enjoying a two-to-one margin at the last election be tossed out of parliament at the next?

Yep. The 'professionals' in the so-called party of business have apparently never seen a Bell Curve, so the notion that elections are won at the centre of that Bell Curve is utterly alien to them. Boggles me how these incompetents score post-politics directorships when they're so clueless.

So interest rates have to go up because we need 100,000s people to lose their jobs, but a climate catastrophe coal mine has to be expanded because we can't use 1,500 jobs? I'm not indifferent to the material conditions of workers, but this system sure is.

.... and they've blocked me. You just know these people are going to do the same thing again next time. They don't seem to understand (or care?) that support for genocide can be an absolute red line, that they will not cross, for people. It's weird.

The DNC and RNC gave them a choice between two candidates who support genocide and ethnic cleansing. I'm not American, but if I were, there's no way I could vote for either of them. Yeah, Trump is a sh*t President. So nominate better candidates. That impossible choice didn't need to be impossible.

Caring about inequality, to me, is the living embodiment of 'the fair go' that Australians used to swear by as an essential part of our national character. An increased vote for progressive indies and Greens would be great. (I'd even settle for Labor belatedly learning to be better people.)

Add to that, because turning up to vote's compulsory, the polling places know how many ballots to print and how many staff they need to handle the flow. You may get a long queue at some of them during peak times, but the queue moves fast, and elections are always held on a Saturday ☺️

Having met Shoebridge, I think Albanese should be worried. Shoebridge is tough, smart and instinctive. a killer combo in politics. Australia needs a real opposition given hollowman Albanese's effective coaltion with the right. I'm not sure how the ALP rusted-ons live with themselves.

After a term of non-stop coal and gas mining approvals and renewals, you still think Labor were serious about environmental bills? Have you seen how little use the HAFF has been? You'd need to be very one-eyed Labor to not see their objections were pretty well bourne out in the end.

If the ABC's not invited, I don't see the point of their covering it at all. If something newsworthy happens, they can always cover the wire reporting later. If not, ON's campaign made their choice and their opponents get the air time instead.

Democrat centrists played stupid games, and won stupid prizes. The DNC needs to hold open primaries next time, and don't interfere when the results aren't favouring the candidates they personally want.

The problem is the UN was built, from the ground up, to be reform-proof. Any attempts at reform will be vetoed by the forces with an interest in it being weak and weakening it further.

The Greens have tried appealing to reason and common sense, and the FPV's been stuck bobbing around 10-15%. It's time for something different. I've been impressed with the way Shoey's hit the ground running with social media, and the aggro seems more in the tone than the substance. So far, so good.

They're all extremely well qualified. She'd make a good leader, but the only thing that counts against her is she's a known quantity. It's a bit like in cricket: you can be excellent at the game, but when you've been around for a while, the opposition have plans to counter you. Less, for Shoebridge.

How worried is Labor about new Greens leader David Shoebridge?
It seems Anthony Albanese would rather only One Nation spoke to voters’ “searing anger”, even if it means more seats for the right than the left.

US police don't seem to do any anger management or de-escalation training over there. Would have thought that sort of thing would be the most basic, essential part of the job before anything else. It's how most police around the world maintain safety and public order.

Even if our AUKUS partners came through with their commitments (extremely unlikely!), the end game's so ridiculous: dragging us into a war with China that AUKUS could never win, destroying our trade relationships, and the US would probably pull out from quickly. Nothing about it makes any sense.

Any government could have introduced a Buffet Tax at any time over the last 50 years. Labor and Liberals are fully responsible. Business will exploit any loophole, and the ATO only gets to play the hand they've been given by the governing class.

If they're as soft hearted as you feel they are, they'd never be able to put animals to sleep, but they do. It's just a part of the job, and they do it to alleviate suffering. Letting a human suffer or putting them to sleep is exactly the same thing.

I'm all for more grandstanding for the Greens, tbh. You do what you gotta do to get the media coverage. PHON understands that, and last election proved it's not healthy for the Greens to stick floating around the 10-15% range.

At very best, Labor's centre-right. They introduced neoliberalism to this country. A real party representing labour wouldn't keep the workers' safety net at 65% of the poverty line, kept so low it causes deaths at 4x the rate of the rest of Australia.

It's bizarre that this UK govt genocide denialism is still going on, when anyone can look up the satellite images of Gaza on Google Maps, and see that just about every house and building has been flattened by missile strikes. It's unimaginable that there aren't enormous numbers buried in the rubble.

Seems to be all political humour and satire, not just newspaper cartooning. Mad As Hell closed up shop on the premise that Shaun Micallef wanted the next generation of comedians to have a go, and the ABC essentially sh*t-canned the entire genre on TV ☹️

Have they adopted neoliberalism as a religion, rather than just a model to help understand the economy? Just bizarre that they've been bone-headed for so long, and nobody's able to clue them in to reality or remove them. Or is there some kind of vested interest thing going on that I'm unaware of?
