The most frustrating thing about this is from 2019-2022 MLS played single elimination playoffs, and that produced four straight absolute fucking banger postseasons, which culminated in the best MLS game ever played (2022 MLS Cup). And the power that be were like "nah fuck that."

As much as I loathe Leagues Cup, I think MLS officials are going to keep it around at least in the short term. The MLS calendar change sets up matches early in the season when there’s not much interest (think NBA Cup), and I think they’re willing to keep it around just based off that.
