@lynnemcewanwriter.bsky.social Loved #adeathinglasgow more so when I discovered it was set in Govanhill where I grew up. Cathcart police station is built on the site of my old school (Holyrood boys annex). BTW you can't drive up Allison st towards Victoria road. Its one way the other direction 🙂

It closed in 1946, and re-opened in 1949 as the St Francis Maternity Home, run by the Franciscan Sisters Minoress who were founded London in the 1880s and who had established a convent on Merryland Street in 1946. #glasgow #govan #architecture #glasgowhistory #architecturephotography

@thisismyglasgow.bsky.social As a toddler I remember our flat had coal fires but in early 60's we replaced with gas fires. Got me thinking... were circa 1890s tenements built with gas supply built in from the start? Don't recall any major work when we had gas fires fitted. Thanks Colin

@gwsfhs.org.uk Re Govanhill/Dixon street names. Think I may have found who Daisy St was named after. William Smith Dixon's mother in law was Anna Margarita Napier. Daisy is Margarita in Spanish and often used as a diminutive name. Still not found Annette St origins.
