Not to be the guy sharing his podcast or anything, but I do think you should listen to this episode (and read @brendanballou.bsky.social’s excellent new book.)

I was on the eleventh floor of an eleven-story building downtown. We felt one big jolt, like the side of the building was hit with a single big gust of wind.

It always blows my mind when a political candidate can’t fulfill the most basic necessity of running for office—Being In A Place. It’s an expression of pure contempt for voters.

I’m just saying that fun AND informative at the same time can be a thing. That whole post chased itself in a circle to tell us to follow a link that we couldn’t click in the video. I had to pause the video and manually type the address in a separate browser window.

I really don’t like the modern-age deletion of Hal’s big family. One of the only distinctive characteristics he had in the silver age was that he was the rare superhero who not only had siblings, but was the middle child between two brothers.

From the Archives: Deck Log Entry # 26 Here Come the Jordans!
The holidays must have been a lonely time for most Silver-Age super-heroes.  The adult ones, anyway.  For few of them had family to be with.  Still-living parents were almost never in evidence.  There...

I don’t understand why you tell us to watch the video when the video just repeats the information in the skeet and tells us to go to sdotblog.seattle.gov for more information. This is like three separate ways to be actively unhelpful in a single post.

It’s especially rough because I was stepping in to take over the moderator role for someone else who canceled, so now the festival has to scramble a second time to replace the replacement. But I’m not going to become a super-spreader if I can help it, and they were lovely about it.

Unfortunately, I found out last night that I have COVID for the second time in my life and I will be unable to host this event. I'm really bummed to miss it. You should still go! (And maybe wear a mask because between COVID and the flu people are dropping like flies in Seattle right now.)

The balance was really quite amazing. It somehow managed to avoid all the doofy "he's right behind me, isn't he?" kind of forced humor while still making the movie genuinely entertaining and gross at the same time.
