About to take two European colleagues, one who grew up behind the Berlin Wall, to a Costco in Texas. This should be an adventure.

Nothing like discovering a recipe you loved, but that disappeared from the internet years ago, on some random free site where users can upload recipes, accompanied by the most horrific, unappetizing looking photo that makes you doubt your own memory of how good it was.
A white plate with a design of large, brown oak leaves and acorns around the rim, filled with clumpy fettucine noodles, cut short, with a chunky orange sauce poorly distributed over them, and some randomly sprinkled parsley. It looks incredibly unappetizing, like you'd really have to choke it down if someone served it to you.

I could not love this pep talk more, but given that yesterday I watched a baseball coach bite an 11 year old's head off over a minor error, and the dad of another player bitch at 2 kids he didn't feel like were engaged in the game enough, it could not be more timely.

Spectacular sunset tonight in Kensington, @capitalweather.com
The image shows a vibrant orange and pink sunset breaking through dark, textured clouds over a residential street with utility poles and a house featuring rooftop solar panels

WMATA really determined to make life as miserable as possible for red line riders this summer. About to hit the 2 hour mark on my commute, which is normally a 20 minute train ride.

Just sat through a required, "AI is great" type meeting at work, where the presenter used, as a POSITIVE, an example of a high level executive he knows who has a challenging relationship with their 16 year old daughter. The guy only talks to his kid after running it through ChatGPT first.

Love to get an email from the CEO of an AI generated list of suggestions for solving a problem. Excellent use of staff time to review a list of ideas that have all already been discussed, including explaining why they would not work.
Snip of an email that says: I threw this problem into Copilot Research, and this is what it kicked out. There may be a couple of ideas in there for us to consider.

My kid’s Little League coaches expecting him to be there 65 minutes before game time on a week day is fully insane. 4:15? We both work and have no local family. He’ll be rolling up right before the first pitch.

At my daughter’s hockey game and listening to some other parents discuss Heated Rivalry, which they believe to be based on young adult books.

If I’m going to be roped into assisting with my kid’s science fair project, and taking photos for her display board, I can at least make it as creepy and weird as possible.

The American healthcare system is so infuriating. Trying to make an appointment with a specialist for my kid and, "We need a diagnosis to schedule her," is their response. That's why I'm trying to make the appointment with you, assholes, to GET a diagnosis. FFS.

Somewhat improbably, my dad's 45+ year old jar of our baby teeth coming in handy a second time, as my kid needs teeth for her school science project.

Thanks, Meta AI for suggesting I turn this photo of beautiful lumpia our neighbor made into a photo of…rectangular hot dogs?
A screenshot of Meta AI showing an original photo of a container of beautifully fried lumpia and suggesting an “improved” version that makes the lumpia appear to be rectangular hot dogs.

Are there honestly enough people with pet orangutans that the allergist needs it as an option on the pre-visit questionnaire?

Made a Dubai chocolate cake at my kid’s request for her birthday. Did not expect to like it, but it’s actually pretty good.

My daughter is learning what Red Sox fandom means.
A series of text messages that read:

I’m really sad now Mom and really mad

It’s like when they traded Nomar Garciaparra to the Cubs

Mom, I don’t get what was going through Craig Breslow’s mind

Happy to see my local library took my purchase suggestion of @greenwell.bsky.social’s upcoming book. Can’t wait to read and get madder at the world than I already am.

My dad has delivered Meals on Wheels for over 40 years. He's now delivering meals to people younger than he is. Aside from nutrition, the program is an important safety net by ensuring seniors are checked on and provided some companionship.

Important stat from first Little League game of the season: not one, but two kids on the team wearing the socks over the pants, with one pulling them all the way to mid-thigh.

When the news is unrelenting and Elon Musk seems to have assembled an army of dipshits without a shred of decency, a small good thing is my kid winning an award for empathy. The world may feel full of assholes, but I’m not raising one.
A smiling 10 year old boy with dark brown hair and wearing an Orioles jersey, holding up a flower and certificate recognizing him for showing empathy.

Not science related, but federal funds ensured my daughter learned to crawl, eat solids, walk, keep up with her peers, read, & write, & supports her education today. Those funds mean she will be an independent, self-sufficient adult, just one who had to work a lot harder than others to get there.

How our 12 year old alerted us to the fact that we all overslept this weekend.
Screenshot of a text message that reads: Guys it's 9:17 am. I am supposed to be at hockey practice. Except I am not.

If your Thanksgiving contribution is 4 mouths to feed and a pie, the pie better be a showstopper.
