Summer 2026 officially the UK's hottest on record (according to provisional data from the Met Office). Captured at Seaburn in Sunderland, NE England, this image just about sums the season up – what a summer it has proved to be! #england #sunderland #coast #seaside #summer #metoffice #photography
On a warm summer's day, four people pictured chilling out under the blue skies and sunshine at the seaside. This was one day in July that typifies the essence of summer 2026, which has been officially declared the hottest on record in the UK!

The chances of going to university still depend far too much on where you grew up. Our analysis of UCAS #ResultsDay data shows 43% of 18-year-olds in London have been accepted into university, compared with just 25% in the North East

Today is World Refugee Day. Here’s a poem called ‘Refugees’.
Refugees

They have no need of our help
So do not tell me
These haggard faces could belong to you or me
Should life have dealt a different hand
We need to see them for who they really are
Chancers and scroungers
Layabouts and loungers
With bombs up their sleeves
Cut-throats and thieves
They are not
Welcome here
We should make them
Go back to where they came from
They cannot
Share our food
Share our homes
Share our countries
Instead let us
Build a wall to keep them out
It is not okay to say
These are people just like us
A place should only belong to those who are born there
Do not be so stupid to think that
The world can be looked at another way

(now read from bottom to top)
