Hate to say it but I am intrigued by Nigel Farage's suggestion of 'Black velvet' (Guinness with a champagne top) as an accompaniment to oysters.

Having just finished 'The Quantity Theory of Morality', I don't think it's very effective satire but, by casting himself as a character, Will Self shows he has much more self-awareness than I would have expected.

Colleague, emailing: 'Hope you're well Patrick! Could you review this document for me?' Me, replying: 'I will be damned if I propose to be at the beck and call of every itinerant scoundrel who has two cents to invest in a postage stamp.'

Compliments to @markabowles.bsky.social for a superb follow up to his debut. It's a stubborn book (in keeping with its narrator, Patrick) and refuses to reveal itself easily to the reader. Part of me is tempted to read it again backwards

A nice young man came to my door the other day selling copies of 'Internationalism: Journal of Marxist Analysis'. I told him I'd see their posters up around the tube station. 'Those aren't us. They belong to another Marxist group,' he replied.
