Three years on, we remember the horrific events of October 7 and the wave of destruction in Gaza that has followed it. We call today, and every day, for an end to the violence, for peace and safety for all.

The "Zionism is racism" motion, to be debated at the Green Party conference tomorrow, will not advance the Palestinian cause one inch. But, if adopted, it would marginalise and discredit the party. There are powerful ways to confront the genocide. Toxic gesture politics isn't one of them.

Our pension system doesn't just rely on state pensions though; we have a large private pension sector which brings provision up. As a Green I believe strongly in progressively taxing the wealthy, especially the super-rich. I also believe in intergenerational fairness, which the triple lock is not.

I don't disagree - I think any economically just social care settlement will need to address the sheer wealth disparity (while also ensuring it doesn't all get swallowed by the predatory private care industry).

Pensioners are the richest UK demographic + have benefited from decades of preferential gov't policy, often at young people's expense. Pensioner poverty is real, but the triple lock is a regressive, inefficient way to address it. Green Party policy is to replace it with inflation uprating and UBI.

Healthcare should be there when you need it. No exceptions. Trans people deserve the same dignity, respect and access to care as everyone else.
Quote graphic. Headline reads: “When trust in healthcare is broken.”

Quote from Anthony Slaughter, Leader of the Wales Green Party:

“People had surgeries cancelled at the 11th hour, with no explanation or option to reschedule. These are people who had spent years preparing, both physically and mentally, for this life-affirming surgery.

In my own way, I was able to relate to that agonising wait. In the days leading up to planned surgery over recess, I underwent scheduled and serious surgery. You trust the system around you. For some, that trust has been broken.

What is important is that the voices and experiences of the trans community are amplified and understood. Gender-affirming healthcare saves lives. What this community needs now more than ever is decisive action, proof that their government will stand up for them and take the lead.”

An organised force of literal blackshirts occupied a major piece of infrastructure just as the leader of a far right political party was egging on violence towards peaceful protesters. The UK is heading down a very dark path - you only need to look to history to see that.

The Canary has had a run of revolting antisemitic articles about the Green Party recently; individual Jewish members have been named and smeared with baseless allegations. If recent news is accurate, this poison is partly what's destroying the Canary from within. Solidarity with those affected.

This looks like blatant illegality. It speaks to the arrogance of Farage and his far-right pals that they feel they can talk so openly like this - and clearly it's not the first time they've apparently knowingly broken the law on donations. Criminal investigations must follow.

✍️ Some words on my return to Parliament this week, including a huge thanks to all my constituents for their understanding and compassion while I've been working on my recovery from burnout. I've been blown away by your kindness 🫶 Looking forward to getting back into things. Onwards and upwards 💚
Zack Polanski and Carla Denyer huggingZack Polanski and Carla Denyer up Cabot Tower in Bristol, looking at the viewI want to say a huge thank you to all my constituents for their understanding and compassion while I have been working on my recovery from burnout. Thank you especially to those who sent me supportive messages during my time away, sharing your own stories of burnout and recovery, and words of advice. I have been blown away by your kindness. 🫶

I recognise that I have been enormously fortunate to have been able to take this time, and that many people faced with the same situation would not be so lucky. No one should be penalised for being too unwell to work, and no one should have to jeopardise recovery because of job insecurity. This is something I am determined to change.

As anyone who’s ever had serious health issues can tell you, recovery isn’t linear, but I am making good progress, so I will be heading back to Parliament this week on a phased return.I’m really looking forward to getting back into things and working alongside my amazing colleagues and inspiring constituents to make a positive impact together.
And so it was great timing that Zack visited Bristol again this weekend (appearing at Forwards Festival yesterday), and we were able to catch up over coffee this morning.

In a world where the UK government’s response to wildfires and droughts ravaging our communities is to temporarily ban disposable BBQs (whilst still considering expanding oil and gas production in the North Sea 🤯), the need for us Green politicians has never been clearer. There is much to do.

Onwards and upwards 💚

This is an issue that will impact the entire economy - not just rail. Right now, AI companies are effectively loss-leading and token prices do not truly reflect their true* cost. What happens when that changes and they jack up the price, likely after users have locked themselves into dependency?

Theory: Farage *wants to lose* his by-election. He clearly doesn't like being an MP. If he'd just resigned he'd clearly be running from scrutiny. But *losing* means leaving with his head held high claiming "establishment stitch-up", and he can keep grifting from the sidelines with no scrutiny.

Yassin Mohamud said that “unity was his biggest priority,” according to the BBC.
He was sworn into office this May.

We should NOT have former refugees running our cities.
