Started playing Detective Instinct: Farewell My Beloved Very solid story so far, builds its world pretty well and characters are very well defined. Spritework is really good too. Only thing I'll say is that the 3D backgrounds clash with the sprites visually, and it's somewhat... off-putting?

How it feels trying to explain that Kanji is almost certainly gay and that it's fine

Kanji is attracted to a person he believes is male

Kanji is still attracted to that person after discovering they identify as female throughout the rest of the game

Kanji is somewhere on the queer spectrum, likely some form of bisexual (probably pan or omni) but that's comparatively a small part of his vastly deep character that makes him so loveable

His Shadow is focused more on how he's perceived as lesser or weird/creepy by women

"Men are much better" and "I vastly prefer men" are both referring to Kanji thinking he won't be judged by other men

This game was written 2007, Japan barely had a concept of what gay people were back then

The fact that Naoto is actually a woman throws any notion that Kanji is gay out the window

Why does him being gay matter in the first place? Naoto shows little attraction to him in canon in the first place so even if she was male Naoto still wouldn't fuck him

Average day in the life of an SMT game NPC for anyone who is not the protagonist

Jesus, man, this Devil Summoning gig is FUCKED. I just saw a guy point down an alleyway and scream "VAPORIZE THEM, ARDHA" or some shit like that, and I saw some weird thing with three arms lob a fireball the size of a Minicoop in there and turn a bunch of Shave Ice Frosts into Magatsuhi. The camera didn't even go onto him, that's how common shit like this is! Meanwhile, MY ass is trying to getting my pet rabbit to cast Zio and Dia. I think I just saw some shirtless guy with tattoos all over his body do the DIO lean and the ground started cracking underneath him like two blocks down?

They can't manifest without Magatsuhi to give them form, so do they just cease to exist or do they take a long time to collect Magatsuhi on their own before manifesting?

I know this is gonna sound stupid but Raidou remaster rn is feeling like the most Persona-like SMT game I've played yet, even more than DDS imo. The world feels actually lived in and characters feel like regular people unlike SMTV or DDS and the way you use daemons w/ investigations helps that a lot
