Like many people who have worked in politics for decades, I am baffled and upset to see candidates who say they are going to try to make things better defeating candidates who say they are trying to make it more or less like it was in the years before things tipped over into Oaf-Style Fascism.

I'm used to finding my people at a protest. Union siblings, activist retirees, friends, former coworkers, and somehow always one of my bosses from 30 years ago will be there. The mass of strangers at #Handsoff Seattle today was far too large for that. I'm proud of my city today.

I worked on a project where the WA DNR maps showed the dominant tree species was Bitter Cherry. We talked to a series of progressively older programmers to find one who knew this was a coding artifact indicating "non-commercial forest". You have to understand how "the data" was collected and used.

Chrome's use-case for its AI writing features is unhinged. 1. Take a writing task that is inherently trivial, where rephrasing has no benefit. 2. Human writes it correctly and succinctly. 3. AI invents emotions the human might have had, doubling the length and slightly fucking up the question.
