Tonight I watched NAZa, a new documentary about Gaza and the genocide of Palestinians, created by Israeli filmmakers. It has interviews with members of the Israeli army that had active part in this. It was one of the hardest things I have watched. When it ended, nobody in the (full) cinema moved […]

So far, Catodon's thread view has been based on Sharkey's, with elements from Firefish. Soon (not for 26.10.0, which is more or less in feature freeze, but for the next version) I will work on some more touches, partly inspired from Reddit. It's gonna be sweet.

If we make an official website for catodon, would it be ok to use www.catodon.rocks for the url, given that we have our fedi server on catodon.rocks? www. doesn't redirect to catodon.rocks currently, it's not used. Both pages would have clear links to the other page so as to not be confusing […]

Is it my impression or is Linux actually gaining some more attention lately? I've been hearing about the "year of the Linux desktop" since before 2010, and it has become a joke ever since, but for the first time it actually looks like a real possibility. I think Steam has played a huge role in […]

Six months ago, when I started working with LLMs, I tried several open source models but they were not reliable, and since I didn't want to compromise quality, I was stuck with Claude and GPT - but always planned to move to open source as soon as possible. One new Catodon feature which I find really handy: When you view a remote profile that shows no posts (because nobody on your server follows them), you get a refresh button which fetches their last posts, so you can get an idea of what they're about. This is an attempt to address one of fedi's […]
