Pando | The Pigeon Guy @pandomonium.bsky.social · 29/07/2026Just found out that in 2019 in Canberra, two pigeons took poppies from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to build a nest. The same animal whose participation in the great wars was largely forgotten, ends up using the symbol of remembrance to build a nest on spikes made to keep them away 🥹 #Pigeonskycamd.org.auAWM pigeon builds nest in Hall with - CAMDpoppies from Tomb of the Unknown Soldier 161

Pando | The Pigeon Guy @pandomonium.bsky.social · 24/07/2026Examples of design J. I love how it tells a story about birds and rivers, each increasing banknote shows a bird from close to the source to close to the sea. Also love how colorful they are instead of being 1/2 colors at most like some other designs. (General description as alt text in next post) 130
Pando | The Pigeon Guy @pandomonium.bsky.social · 24/07/20265/10 of these design proposals are bird centered !!!! The non-bird designs look super corporate to me tbh. Pando | The Pigeon Guy @pandomonium.bsky.social · 14/07/2026They flock to humans, because town pigeons are descendants of domesticated pigeons. They're just resilient enough to survive. To be healthy, they need fresh water, healthy food and safe shelter. There's only a few remaining wild populations, in Scotland's Hebrides (on the coastline). 120
Pando | The Pigeon Guy @pandomonium.bsky.social · 30/06/2026End of thread ) Again, these issues are pretty minor, the video is accurate enough and really well made ! Please let me know if I'm wrong or I missed something. #Pigeonsky #Pigeons #MayaHiga #Alveus 010
Pando | The Pigeon Guy @pandomonium.bsky.social · 30/06/20264) The most misleading part : us "starting" to eat pigeons. Farming pigeons for food (when we moved forward from capturing semi-wild ones) was the main drive to keep pigeons along with byproducts. They reproduce fast and are low maintenance, making them a good food source. 110
Pando | The Pigeon Guy @pandomonium.bsky.social · 30/06/20263) The framing around use in WW1 is a bit misleading as she only mentions use by the US army, possibly leading people to think of the US army as a pioneer, the first one to do it or the main user of pigeons. In reality pigeon use in war had been used already for millenia by various different actors. 100
Pando | The Pigeon Guy @pandomonium.bsky.social · 30/06/20262) Again, not exactly clear on how they perceive magnetic fields (although recent research on iron rich liver immune cells is promising), and we know their ability to home consists of an intricate combination of factors she mentions here, it would be better to frame them as inclusive with eachother. 110
Pando | The Pigeon Guy @pandomonium.bsky.social · 30/06/2026Few issues I've noticed (unless I'm mistaken) : 1) It's not exactly clear how we domesticated them, but it's not "we took them from the caves". There's a good bit of self-domestication by taking advantage of our crops, and us taking advantage of this to capture a few and eat them. 110
Pando | The Pigeon Guy @pandomonium.bsky.social · 30/06/2026Really cool vid !
