Here's the pair. Can't believe how literally and figuratively beautiful it is ! The symbol of memory beyond death used by the forgotten as a building material to bring life.

Two pictures of the bonded pair that built the nest.
Left : a checkered rock pigeon stands on top of polished stone (presumably part of the monument), its beak pointed slightly up, holding one of the fake poppies.
Right : inside the monument, behind stained glass, a barred pigeon sits in a large nest made of fake poppies, built upon bird spikes. It seems to be looking at the camera.

Every banknote has a similar design pattern. They're made to be read vertically.

Front :
- Small EU flag top left
- Value indicated small top right and big at bottom
- Art of a european bird that can be found at the specified area of a river and a representation of its natural habitat take almost the full banknote size
- General full river shape on the security foil, a small bird silhouette (same bird as depicted) indicates where on that river shape it can be found.

Back :
- Euro symbol top left
- Values at the same spots as front
- The shadow of the depicted bird's wing is merged with a drawing of an important EU building.
- Non-descript sketch of a crowd of people at the bottom
- Shadow of the map of Europe overlaid on part of the crowd in the bottom right.

Examples of design J. I love how it tells a story about birds and rivers, each increasing banknote shows a bird from close to the source to close to the sea. Also love how colorful they are instead of being 1/2 colors at most like some other designs. (General description as alt text in next post)

Coolest I've held was probably a baby tawny owl at rehab center ! They were super chill and so soft looking, so cute. (Took a pic when someone else held one)

Juvenile tawny owl (nestling stage) held in leather gloves, its large clawed foot clutching a finger. Having mostly just down feathers, it looks very soft and plushie-like (despite the fairly large beak).

I think those pigeons are Band-tailed Pigeons actually ! The black point of the beak is not seen in wood pigeons normally, and wood pigeons have pink feet. Super cool find, they're pretty !

Picture of a Band-tailed Pigeon. Grey, with dark flight feathers, a short tail, reddish grey belly, white half-collar in the back of the neck with diamond-patterned green highlights, yellow feet, red eyes and a thin yellow beak with a black point.

Our feral pigeons we see in the city are descendants of domesticated birds. Some of those ancestors were what we call fancy pigeons, breeds if you will, created by humans, that either escaped or were let out. Pouters are a group of breeds where the pigeon have more puffed up crops at rest, see pic.

The humble Rock Dove ! They are incredibly smart, curious, highly social, funny and silly, and extremely affectionate both towards their peers and humans they've learned are safe ! They've been domesticated for millennia yet we've abandoned them recently. Pijon :3

Picture from google, shows a rock dove (your city pigeon) strutting towards the left. Classic double stripe feather pattern, purple and green reflections well visible on the neck.

Poor little blackbird teen fell into the dog pool, had to fish him out. Dried up a bit and put to cook in the sun in a safe place, he was still responsive so he should be fine !

Picture a young blackbird resting on the sunlit ground all fluffed up. It looks a bit wet and cold.

Woodie made a nest under the roof in the house I'm keeping. Nest is really well made, but it is placed on an old plank balancing between that brick ledge and a wooden beam. 6/10

Here's a eurasian collared dove, which domestic individuals can be fully white, but it's much rarer to see collared doves that way. Notice the beak in this case is quite different, thinner and the cere (nose part) is much less pronounced. But Columbidae are very similar so no real big differences !

Picture of a Eurasian Collared Dove. Pale brown dove with a black half-ring around the back of their neck.

"Pigeons are friends, not pests". Th3 artist (euwanya art) isn't on bluesky, but wanted to share it here still because pijon :3. Here's their website : euwanya.wixsite.com/euwanya Original tiktok : vm.tiktok.com/ZNdNHhSSY/ #Pigeonsky #art

Digital art in a ghibli-like style. Two pigeons in front, on a widowsill, touching beaks with a little heart next to them, observed by a curious black and white cat on the other side of the window. Caption at the bottom reads "Pigeons are friends, not pests". The one on the front is a barred grey pigeon sitting on a few twigs placed on wood, seemingly a nest. The one above standing on a brick ledge is a barless brown pigeon.
