Hubert must have nodded, for Ferdinand hears Bernadetta say, "Good, I h-hoped so... You're s-so cute when you blush."
Ferdinand hears it again; that chuckle, warm and low and rumbling. He can scarcely recognize Hubert, a conundrum which worsens when he hears
Bernadetta order,
"Get on your knees."
"Yes, my lady," Hubert obeys. Ferdinand's very blood scalds at how quickly he does so. What had Bernadetta done to him, over the course of their encounters, that she could order Hubert to submit to her and he would do so without hesitation? How must that feel, to wield power over someone so obstinate, so infuriating, so mind numbingly and incessantly contrarian as-
Ferdinand stops himself, halting the path of that thought as though he were yanking the reins of a wayward horse.
"You're exquisite, my...my..." Hubert starts to say, but his voice trails off into a soft moan before being snuffed out completely. Bernadetta gasps, louder this time.
Ferdinand begins to chew on his lower lip, eyes desperately flicking about the balcony, as though he may find some place to hide from his own imagination. It was clear to him that Hubert's head was buried between Bernadetta's legs, lapping her up with a sharp and servile tongue. He can hear the smallest gasps occasionally fall out of Hubert's mouth. A muffled moan pries its way out of Hubert's pale throat.
