in my Overheard fic I was writing Ferdinand very guiltily indulging in Imagining His Friends Fucking and now for Letter Sex I am pivoting into an imagining that is distinctly closer to Pining. Yearning even.

"I am sorry you missed it, but | know this I be the first of many. In terms of how much I love to wear it, though... I don't know if it I ever measure up to your cape. And I miss it. I miss how heavy it feels, how it wraps itself around me, and most of all, the way it smells."
Hubert's longing for her takes a new shape. What was once a simple twinging between his ribs begins to spring to life. Hubert wishes to be that cape, entangled with her body, bound with tight archer's muscles that were topped by the softness of peacetime. She missed the way that he smelled, and Hubert reciprocates that yearning with an urgency that makes him wish he'd thought to bring an article of her clothing with him to smell while re-reading her letter.
"There was a Morfan merchant in Dagsion. It's true what they say; Morfis' magic truly is unparalleled.
She had so much to choose from; I hope you'll like what I'm bringing home. Something in particular caught my eye. It's U-shaped; the ends are made of obsidian, just like your brooch, but the middle is leather, so it's flexible. The more I thought about your cape, the more / thought about you, Hubert, and before I knew it, I couldn't wait to try it anymore.

The longing begins brimming hotter, bringing heat to Hubert's chest that blooms and spreads to his cheeks, palms, and belly.
"It reminded me so much of you. Not just because of the obsidian, either; it responds to orders. Whisper to it, and the obsidian pieces vibrate. It takes commands almost as well as you do."
Hubert groans, feeling the muscles in his body begin to tighten. Even now, so far apart from the Lady of his House, he would give nearly anything to hear a command fall from her perfect lips.
"You're so clever with your fingers and tongue, even in two places at once. I've never been able to make myself feel close to the way you can.../ doubt anything ever will. But I needed it, I needed both so much that I just had to see if it could come close."
He lurches forward, burying his face in a wide palm to stifle a moan. The feeling of fabric against his lips briefly makes him consider removing his gloves, but he elects to leave them on for the moment.
After all, a gloved hand would feel more like hers.

Bernadetta's frown deepens. She touches the fabric of Hubert's jacket sleeves, which are resently keeping her warm. Selfishly, Hubert hopes she is thinking of him as she does.
He notices her face twitching, as though she is summoning the courage to say something to him. Eventually, Bernadetta settles on,
"Is there anything I...can do? F-For you?"
Hubert's heart leaps at the question. Countless answers race through his mind, none appropriate to give voice to. Embrace me, walk with me, kiss me, tell me what I must do to earn a word of affection from your lips, allow me a chance to prove to you that I could make you happy.
