🚨Elsevier forces out Games and Economic Behavior (GEB) Editor, entire editorial board has resigned, current board only handling new submissions until Nov. 14 #econsky
    Dear Advisory Editor of GEB
We are very sorry to be the bearers of bad news for GEB.
I learned from Elsevier on Wednesday July 28 that, contrary to my expressed willingness to continue, my 3-year contract will not be renewed.
"Moving towards a closer alignment with Elsevier strategic priorities and publishing policies" was offered as the motive for this decision. Requests for explanations, first by me, then in a collective letter by the other six Editors, were dismissed by Elsevier which simply reaffirmed its legal power to make such decisions.
Elsevier then started precipitously its own search for new Editors without input of the Editorial Board.
By Friday August 14 all seven Editors have sent their resignation, requiring a 3-month advance notice.
Therefore, we will continue to manage as before the papers currently under review and the new submissions until Saturday November 14. After this date we will only complete the evaluation of papers still waiting an editorial decision.

New thing I've done for research that sounds weird out of context: Dropped by the office on my way home to pick up reusable zip ties for fieldwork tomorrow.

Data transfers are the bane of my existence. My surveys take 3 nights and each survey takes 7h to transfer to a desktop where the audio files have to be scrubbed of noise and processed in a 35h protocol.

Sometimes, I have to put my research "under embargo" (usually involved ticking a box that files can't be accessed widely) and it feels silly every time until I remember I actually do quite serious research.

Happy birthday Rosalind Franklin (1920 – 1958), 👩🏼‍🔬🧪🐡 #histsci #chemist & x-ray #crystallographer whose x-ray diffraction images were instrumental to discovering double-helix structure of #DNA, made important contributions to carbon & virus research, was 1 of the great scientists of the 20th century.
My linocut portrait of Rosalind Franklin (1920 – 1958), in a gradient of magenta from her shoulders up through dark blue to her hair. Her necklace is a double helix of DNA. Her brooch is the Tobacco Mosaic Virus. The pattern on her jacket is based on her publication of the structure of non-graphitizing carbon. Behind her in shades of robin’s egg blue is an image of the famous X-ray crystallographic Photo 51, produced by her grad student Gosling and important to deducing the structure of DNA.

I was going to have this aesthetic academia experience of handwriting some modelling notes on my journey to Paris. Instead, the air con was on max, there wasn't enough light for hand written, and the person in front of me leaned back so far, I couldn't even code.

There's a special irony that I, with a German passport and a valid UK student visa, have bureaucratic trouble to go on a last minute holiday in France, because I'm studying in the UK and the UK border control needs 2 additional forms of paperwork to let me re-enter with my valid student visa.
