I will say during my research project of Colonial era depicted on film, Griffith has come up an number of times, (America, Spirit of 76) and a lot of details do better match up with your takes on him than the traditional takes.

I always thought it was weird given what the film is about that the main character went on to inspire one for the most famous villains ever. It’d be like if decades from now we had an iconic badguy who was clearly visually based on Edward Scissorhands.

I think a big part of their differences is that Dave Batista is willing to be vulnerable onscreen with his characters and even Cena to a degree in a way the Rock never allows for himself because he’s gotta be portrayed and this real life super action hero.
