Oh. Btw, if you are not familiar with the song “Here It Is!” from the CRIMINALLY under appreciated western-comedy-musical, Paint Your Wagon, it has a line about the Exodus story that lives in my head RENT FREE about the idol. All 3 hrs of this movie are, yes I mean this pun, GOLD.

Yes AND. (clears throat to yell to the front pews at the church down the street) WOMEN LEADERSHIP WAS SO NORMAL AND IMPORTANT IN THE EARLY CHRISTIAN CHURCH THAT EVEN DURING CONFLICT THE ANSWER WAS “CHILL OUT” NOT “THIS IS WHY GIRLS CANNOT LEAD BC FEEEEEEEELINGS”

It's Banned Books Week, y'all. Books are so wonderful. Read them. Think about them. Buy them. Share them. Talk about a book that changed you this week. A book that made you BETTER

Yeah... Part of taking the Bible seriously is, *deep sigh*, taking the Bible seriously. (the deep sigh was FOR me, not AT you) Parts of it are STUPIDLY challenging. I am fascinated by this weird, grim, and obtuse parable, but I don't think I know how to preach it. I am not great at Exodus either...

I preach next week, and I am perusing Sermons That Work on #TEC website, and I see @franklogue.bsky.social 's sermon ("Off Guard") on this bit from the Lectionary back in 2008. Nice! 📕

The beguine order I am an aspirant to is Franciscan and seeks to minister especially to the LGBTQIA community and help us all find our place in the church. I think of Frnacis making friends with a wolf. There are many ways to love our neighbors and our enemies. Many are human.

Hey, #Narthex! I am heading to #TEC General Convention this Summer. Where are all the Weird Anglican Bluesky posters going to gather? Are we going to have buttons? A secret handshake? I want to say hi to y'all in person because y'all have made me more faithful! ⚓

Blessed Feast of St. Michael and All Angels! ⚓
A colorful tattoo on someone's right shoulder and bicep of St. Michael the angel, scales in his left hand and a sword raised high in his right, with a 1920s caricature of a capitalist under his boot, gold coins spilling from his hands and a cigar in his mouth.

Like this is the worst kind of Boomerism. Some people bought houses for $40,000 too. But bragging about it when people are talking about homelessness is gauche at best and cruel at worst.

No. It most certainly is not okay. Also social workers are the largest group of mental health providers in the country. So. This is how you blow up the behavioral health system too. Christians might could care about that too. The entire thing makes me so angry.

With respect, what the hell is the point of that comment on this topic? I wish college tuition was free. It isn’t. People are suffering. Saying “I’m fine” comes across as incredibly cold. I am certain you mean something other than “yay me, too bad you”, but I genuinely cannot figure out what.

Oh don’t do that. Engaging them makes them feel like they OWN Christianity and everyone has to justify to THEM. Like they become the arbiters of the religion and the arguments. Just don’t.

The point is to help the street preacher feel justified in their own isolation by the reactions of others that are unholy or unkind. Anything less than absolute agreement is evidence of sin and also reinforces “how the world is!” The point isn’t Jesus.

I don't love linking orthodoxy to liturgy - lots of our non-liturgical pals are part of this movement. My take: "The received doctrine is serious and true, and its only natural conclusion is radical, inclusive love."

Dumb phones and watches that tick are looking increasingly tempting. I don’t want an “AI” dystopia. Would much prefer a reality in which human flourishing is prized. It’s just, you know, Christianity. ⚓️

So… go all in and get an electric ambry. (Throw tomatoes at me. Go ahead.) The light of Christ is represented by… light, not just fire. I think it’s possible to be too freaking precious and risk being church magicky. God created electricity. The point is to inform of Christ’s presence!!

Augustine— imperfect, weird, body-shaming Augustine—is central to this queer person’s conversion to Christianity. Reading Confessions after the loss of my sister was profound in ways that are beyond words. I don’t buy all of his theology. But I am moved intensely by his piety. 🕯️

Two things!! One. St. Augustine’s Confessions had a great influence on my conversion. Two. Why did European artists paint the great African saint as so VERY WHITE?
