I enjoyed being with Diocese of Georgia seminarian Rebekah Matthews today taking part in a lecture and panel discussion and the installation of the Rev. Dr. Gabrielle Thomas as the Dean and President of Berkley Divinity School at Yale. #LetsMakeADean #episcopal ⚓️

Holy Nativity on St. Simons Island is full of joy and energy as they search for their next priest. The new addition to their building looks great. It was a delight to be with them. It will be a blessed priest who gets to lead this congregation in the coming years. #Episcopal ⚓️

The Fall House of Bishops meeting at Camp Allen in Texas ended last evening. As we said in our word to the church from this meeting, “Over the course of our meeting, we held in constant tension a clear-eyed look at the realities of the present and a persistent hope for the future.”

My heart is full after a few days with many of the deacons and priests of the Diocese of Georgia have been together for our Fall Clergy Conference. This is a creative and faithful group of followers of Jesus that I am privileged to serve as chief pastor. #episcopal

You can go home again as I was back at Trinity in Statesboro for a visitation. Victoria was their first female acolyte more than 50 years ago and was confirmed here and they sponsored me for seminary. #episcopal ⚓️

You can go home again, or at least that was the feeling this morning at St. Patrick’s in Pooler. I was newly on diocesan staff 16 years ago when I served here 12 weeks in a row after their priest left. Lots of hugs and funny stories. #episcopal ⚓️

I love the ministry of acolytes and was so glad spend time talking with those gathered for the Diocese of Georgia’s Acolyte Festival about the role of a bishop using the episcopal ring, mitre, crozier, and pectoral cross to describe this call and then answer their great questions. #episcopal

Cockspur Island Lighthouse east of Savannah near Tybee Island operated from 1839-1909. Just 46 feet tall, this is Georgia’s smallest lighthouse.

Grace Church in Waycross pulled out all the stops for their August Visitation with the blessing of their long awaited bell, beautiful music, and a wonderful meal to go with our liturgy with confirmations and reaffirmations. This congregation has a big impact on their downtown community. #episcopal ⚓️

Demotivators poster says Tradition: just because you've always done it that way doesn't mean it's not incredibly stupid.

Almighty God, whose wisdom and whose love are over all, accept the prayers we offer for our nation. Give integrity to its citizens and wisdom to those in authority, that harmony and justice may be secured in obedience to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The visit to St. Luke’s in Hawkinsville shows that sometimes the small good things amount to something big. It’s Joyce ready to have a hymn sing of tunes from the 1770s before church and as folks arrive they join in with more and more voices…#episcopal ⚓️
