Maybe an inversion of Marx? Start socialist, seize many of the private assets for the people, then become a ruthless capitalist to maximize those public asset values.

Singapore is a complicated case to be sure, maybe impossible to replicate. Ruling party originally allied with the communists, but later they split and govt became v anti-communist. But the 1966 land law was arguably a vestige of those socialist origins.

The instrumentalism of that list is interesting to me being in Singapore, as arguably Singapore has come extremely close to fulfilling all those aims, with a decidedly non-socialist system. (Though govt owning over 80% of the land via the Land Acquisition Act has helped)

I see they have a minor note at the end that legitimate purpose includes "undertaking research studies" - a pretty important category!

Once again, child dies in gene-editing trial in China, rekindling debate on transparency and safety
With a second delayed report of a child's death in China, criticism is rising of a looser form of clinical trial. One expert: what "bothers me is the lack of transparency."

That's probably a general phenomenon, also true in e.g. philosophy. I presume the experience enhances analysis (not that I have any particular film criticism ability), but may detract from trying to appreciate how the next gen of naifs will experience some movie. So TikTok hot takes have some edge!

I enjoyed Project Hail Mary, and was surprised by how kid-accessible it is, but I wouldn't rank it in the same class as say Star Wars, Alien, ET, or frankly even Interstellar or Arrival. I guess that's something to regret, I can never go back to being a wide-eyed film naif! (Pace Total Recall)...

There's something to this. In the glory days of pre-streaming Netflix, with literally all of film history readily accessible, I plowed through dozens of classics. And they blew me away! But now, it takes a really special film to grab me, cuz they all pale in comparison to the greats...

Philosophy absolutely bodied by my kids' school sending out important PSA about rejecting 'anything strange' from adults.
PSA saying "Say no if anyone tries to offer you drugs or anything strange," with the image satirically altered to depict a child rejecting "panpsychism"

Tbh, I would reject the idea that the list of artistically high quality games is small/constrained. There's a lot! The threads below scratch the surface, the lists can really go on and on esp in the indie space. If I had to pick one I'd highlight To the Moon, but really there's too many to count.
