As much as everyone is going to blame Wharfie Time, and losing Pearce was cruel, kicking 12.17 is what did Freo in #AFLGF.

On the whole, I would say people in STEM are less hostile to LLMs than people in the humanities and arts, so it is extraordinary that OpenAI are going to blow that up by trying to screw over a tenured mathematician.

An interesting podcast episode by @jashap.bsky.social on what kind of books AI companies are buying to destructively scan and why it’s problematic. Also touches on the link between this destructive scanning and Judge Alsup’s judgement re the Anthropic settlement: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/p...

Good to see the right of erasure made it in from the AG’s 2022 report. I find it odd smart glasses would be left to local government; given state surveillance device laws restrict covert recordings it would make more sense to deal with it there: www.abc.net.au/news/2026-08...

Citation software is very useful in legal academia, particularly if you are submitting an article to different journals that have different (and in some cases inaccessible citation styles). Also, Zotero allows you to put in notes that can help future you (your most important collaborator).

As @drdebgleeson.bsky.social notes, the US may also place pressure on Australia to provide drug manufacturers with greater notice of when a generic drug could enter the market. This would permit manufacturers to delay access to cheaper generics in Australia.
