I started my day at the Bytown Museum, at their community breakfast and launch of their Ottawa 200 events. It was wonderful to be welcomed by leaders from the Anishinabe Algonquin Nation, reminding us that the our city was cared for by Indigenous peoples for generations before settlers arrived.

Grande, by Darren Jerome was a good read about life in the Ottawa Valley in the 1840s. I preferred it to Lowertown, to which it’s a sequel, and you really don’t have to have read the first one to enjoy the second.
