Question (to Kajiura): Can you tell us a bit about FictionJunction, and how it got started?
Kajiura starts by saying she was originally a composer doing soundtracks. She notes that while her work has lots of instrumental works as well as vocal works, FictionJunction became a personal project of hers to write and produce songs specifically in Japanese.

Q (to vocalists): One of the defining features of FictionJunction is the unique vocal blend. Please tell us more about your experiences! We have questions for each of you:

Q (to Kaori): What was your experience like joining FJ?
Kaori starts with explaining she joined FJ through a connection from her agency senpai, who knew that Kajiura was looking for vocalists. Through that connection, she started singing in the Tsubasa OST (and names the tracks Tsubasa and dream scape) and notes that was the beginning of FictionJunction KAORI. She finishes with saying she had

already been listening to Kajiura’s music—such as the Noir OST—and was a fan, so being able to include her name into Kajiura’s albums felt like the treasure of a lifetime.

Q (to Yuriko Kaida): You’ve been part of many iconic songs through Kajiura’s long discography, how do you approach recording for these projects and how does it differ from other projects you participate in?
Yuriko Kaida starts with describing her experience with Kajiura, who has had her sing not just main vocal parts but a lot of chorus parts as well. She goes on to say she’s sung a lot of choruses for other projects, down to the tiny parts that may not always be audible or noticed. But with Kajiura’s works she feels that she can really hear every individual chorus part, including her own voice. She finishes with saying how satisfying it is to hear it all come together.

Q (to Joelle): There’s such a strong sense of unity in FJ’s works—how do you build this sense of unity and chemistry with the other vocalists?
Joelle (speaking in English) starts with saying that to all of them, the chemistry is very important. Before they go into rehearsals they all practice individually, of course—they listen a lot and try to understand the pieces. And as they practice, they each imagine singing on stage so that once

they enter rehearsals together, they all can come in trusting each other to come practiced and ready to do what they’re here to do.

Q (to Lino Leia): As the newest member of FJ, how has your experience been since you joined ?
Lino Leia starts with saying when she heard Kaori just now, that Kaori had felt it was like a dream to join Kajiura’s project, she was surprised. She thought “wow, they felt like that?” because to her, everyone else in FJ were already big stars. To be able to join has felt like a dream and, since she had mostly done solo works until now, it has been quite the experience to join voices and blend together. She finishes with expressing that she has learned a lot, and it’s been a valuable experience she could only get here.

Q (to Kajiura): You’ve composed for numerous projects, but is there a project that felt especially meaningful?
Kajiura has a short answer for this, which is: No, they’re all special in their own way. She talks about facing each of them one by one as their own important thing, and how she puts a lot of herself into each, so she does not have just one.

Q (to the vocalists, one by one): You’ve performed a variety of songs to fans all over the world, but is there any one

performance that stands out to you?
Everyone responds with what a difficult question this is.
Kaori starts her response with how it’ll soon be 20 years since she joined FJ. The Tsubasa OST (Tsubasa, dream scape) stands out to her because that was her start as FictionJunction KAORI—and also Hanamori no Oka. They have all sung a lot of songs together as a unit, but those stand out to her because they are her solos as FictionJunction KAORI.
Yuriko Kaida starts with saying her answer may get long, because they have worked on so much together. She answers with Noir, when she first started working with Kajiura, and names the tracks Canta Per Me and Salva Nos. She adds that she has also sung a lot of choruses for FictionJunction YUUKA, and talks about how she thinks there are a lot of good songs among Yuuka’s songs. She then stops and looks to Kajiura, wondering if she can say this, and continues that she has sung a lot of zougo (made-up language) while singing her songs, she often has no idea what she’s saying—but it’s fun as it feels like singing a magic spell.
Kajiura jumps in briefly to mention that she has been working with Kaida for much longer than the other vocalists. While she invited the other vocalists to FJ for
