The Dreadbound Ode by @jordanloyalshort.bsky.social is a must-read dark fantasy/sci-fi that doesn't get enough attention. If you prefer your epic tales more concise and less bloated I highly recommend this. It's creepy, it's thoughtful, it's going on your TBR, yes? #booksky #grimdark #indie

The three book covers of the Dreadbound Ode by Jordan Loyal Short. Each depicts a silhouetted figure against a saturated colour background. The first is red and features an antlered figure and a collapsing moon; the second is purple and features a robed figure facing a cosmic gateway; the third is green and features a figure crouching by a gravestone.

Happy New Year all! Do yourselves a favour and make your first read this year Monstrilio by @samanito.bsky.social. Despite my absurdly high expectations for this book, it surpassed them. Bizarre, goofy, dark, emotional, and queer. Also, if anyone knows of anything similar, feel free to let me know!

The cover of Monstrilio by Gerardo Sámano Córdova. It depicts a black amorphous squiggle with two eyes at the centre, on a faded pink background.

Looking for a queer wild-west fantasy with unconventional heroes? I've yet to come across something quite like the Hexslinger series by @gemmafiles.bsky.social which is a shame because it's super entertaining. More queer westerns pls (or better yet, more Hexslinger!)

A side-by-side arrangement of Gemma Files' Hexslinger trilogy: A Book of Tongues, A Rope of Thorns, and A Tree of Bones.

Gonna need to share my latest literary brain worm: Cry Pilot series by @joeldane.bsky.social. I know that sounds gross but it's a good brain worm I promise. It's kind of like Red Rising meets Attack On Titan and it deserves your attention.

Side-by-side covers of the three Cry Pilot books by Joel Dane.

So... I seem to have a type. Communities with seemingly irreconcilable cultural values learning to get along... or not (+ queer MCs!) The God-King Chronicles by @mikebrooks668.bsky.social Songs of the Drowned by @annasmithwrites.bsky.social The Seven Kennings by @kevinhearne.bsky.social
