Doing a test for the Sailor Witch colors- I think the more colorful ones on the left are fun, but the ones on the right read a lot more as "witch" and "halloweeny" which is the vibe I want for this sticker sheet 🤔

here they all are! also the imperial guard are ridiculous because this genuinely can be argued to be an insufficient number of sculpts to support a proper army lol

and i don't (just) mean in the cringy krieger romance stuff; they're little french trenchmen, they should be unionizing and refusing to attack and stuff lol

Erika Chappell 🏳️‍⚧️ Stop Asking For STLs @opensketchbook.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

furthermore, i think the death korps meme stuff squanders the best use of them for storytelling. if you put an army of brainwashed soldiers abusively conditioned to desire martyrdom at industrial scale, the most interesting story to tell is to show that conditioning when it fails or breaks down

Erika Chappell 🏳️‍⚧️ Stop Asking For STLs @opensketchbook.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

just one more to go! there's a handful of gas masked troopers in the valkyrie kit, though not many. the faceless troopers thing sort of goes against what i like most about the guard, which is that they're brave, scared regular folks against an absurd universe.

to be clear, this was a serious problem. i think because i was in so much pain for so long, the act of drawing would leave me constantly anxious, and that anxiety would build and spiral into just straight-up hating anything i drew.

guard players dooming like usual when like, buddy, lasguns are literally exactly as lethal vs tacticus marines as they were before and their boltguns are not any more lethal back "oh but bolt rifles wound russes on 5s now" they did before with codex oath, with lieutenant lethals + rerolls!

3320

Erika Chappell 🏳️‍⚧️ Stop Asking For STLs @opensketchbook.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

the space marine codex made some numbers bigger and then took out basically all the most common sources of rerolls, + to wound, and lethals vs monsters & vehicles, so you actually play with the units and not just bash detachment special rules together it feels so wild nobody is noticing that

2392

Erika Chappell 🏳️‍⚧️ Stop Asking For STLs @opensketchbook.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

right now the fightiest shit all works by stacking keywords to hilarious degrees. at the tournament on saturday my main killy unit was plasma gunners with sustained + lethals + extra AP-1 from librarius + oath rerolls, going into necrons with crit 5s + lethals + sustain + rerolls from destroyer

1340

Erika Chappell 🏳️‍⚧️ Stop Asking For STLs @opensketchbook.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

its really funny how GW has been using bigger stats to hide the medicine of making 11th edition less lethal like everyone is freaking out about strength 5 when basically all the top combos in 10th edition never look at the strength value of their weapons

flamethrower operators in fiction are often either giggling pyromaniacs or faceless forces of nature, but a lot of them would just be conscripts given a pretty shit job. i decided to have one of my less dynamic poses here be somebody clearly coming to terms with what their weapon is capable of

a valkyrie flamethrower operator with her weapon held low, shoulders slumped, and coat blowing in the wind. she's pulling down her scarf to reveal an expression of wide-eyed horror

three three flamethrower operators so far. there's *36* gunners in the final kit, more than enough for whatever you're doing with them!

the three poses so far; two low-slung firing poses, one with a gas mask and the other with face mask and goggles, and the running pose
