At least I’ve reminded my legs what a full day’s Audax riding feels like but there’s only 11 days until a 1,000km brevet and my training has comprised 3 200s and a 300. I suppose I’ll have to fall back on experience for this one 🤣

Route track for today’s ride around North East England. It’s 302.06 kilometres with 3,352 metres of elevation gain, taking 12 hours and 59 minutes.

"Over an 18 year period, someone who cycles to work has nearly 50% less chance of dying from *anything* than someone who drives"... including being knocked off by a motorist (based on UK census data). Passive travel is bad for your life expectancy and pollution inside the car is worse than outside.

First cycle commute in five weeks, a world of difference from the perpetual damp at the start of the year. First time riding a “fast” bike on flats too, tempted to do a longer ride on them.

Great to be cycle commuting again after the ice-enforced break (building work at the office means there’s nowhere to store the winter bike at the moment).

I’d gladly contribute more in tax if it meant that trains were reliable, I could get a GP appointment, people generally in need of assistance from the state weren’t treat like shit, etc. I have a feeling we might be in worst of both worlds territory though. #budget2025
