Ata Kak is a stone cold classic. I still need to listen to his new (!!!) album which from the couple singles I heard, is just as good.

000

Thank you!!! I'll lock in.

000

Yeah, you could say I'm a bit of a main stage gamer.

A Frosty Faustings registration showing that the only two events I'm registered for are Chicago's Mystery Tournament, and a second, more evil Chicago's Mystery Tournament.

actually while we're here, it's also 2001 in that we get a good 007 game (I will always go to bat for Agent Under Fire) with a completely new not-in-the-movies Bond yes, Agent Under Fire counts for that

with how much research there is into the fact that even a 250ms delay results in lost millions of sales dollars, the fact that we still have to deal with waiting for SMS for a nondeterministic amount of time instead of using passkeys is really frustrating

Turns out having one organization in charge of labeling callers as spam without accountability is perhaps not great.

020

OmniRabbit @omnirabbit.bsky.social · 7h

It is infuriating how many hospitals either don't have Caller ID, or get labeled as "Spam Likely". If I didn't pick up on unknown numbers, two people might not be alive right now.

"Silly and corny but fun" describes a good chunk of his work, and this does not diminish his legend status even a little bit. Thanks for the upload!

Coffee and sugar completely changed nations. And you're giving a peasant a magical beverage turbocharged with both things.

040

OmniRabbit @omnirabbit.bsky.social · 9h

I always find it weird that people talk about feeding Doritos to medieval peasants when those at least have some conceptual analogues at the time, while a Mountain Dew is so far past anything of the era that it is more likely to induce the freakout.

Currently about halfway through @randomstranger.bsky.social 's current PC Engine series and I feel like if I was in Japan in 1990 I'd be the kind of PC Engine head that was so off the deep end, he'd buy at least one Ultrabox issue.

Definitely one of the great bands that comes up over and over again whenever you look at Soviet-era jazz. Brilliant stuff from Modo, who were huge in Latvia.

That looks charming! The game being less punishing will perhaps be a fine complement to my reading level. Thank you!

Some days I genuinely wonder about the alternate history where the Namco merger somehow works out, and whether they flame out or produce the greatest video games ever known to mankind (and still somehow flame out).

070

Every day I think about how Hiro (OutRun composer) is still there, and still putting out bangers. I hope he retires happily.

150

this is true and has been true for the past 30 years. And contrary to how most people understand, it was worse *before* Sammy, for reasons that people other than you seldom discuss! Still, there's a lot of good people at Sega, and the fewer assholes clamping them down the better.

What is the best next game for someone with elementary schooler JP comprehension like myself, after Torneko? It feels primeval, everything here is engaging but it's very much "the first ever of its kind" so it's kind of limited, but I like the base.

100

If I had a nickel for every time a game who made a big deal of Unreal Engine 5 felt like a total scam, I'd have two nickels.

100

meanwhile as someone who has never torneko'd in his life I was having a blast if the SNES is that much better, well...the MiSTer is right there...

When you listen to one of my mixes, this is who's spinning the tunes.

A funky B-boy rabbit, dressed in a stylish red cap, brown sunglasses, a green hoodie and khaki pants, with red-and-white sneakers, on a garish red-green-yellow striped background.

I think with the specific qualifier of "the first hip-hop in CD quality with lyrics in video games", this just wins. And I don't think the looser qualifier (dropping the sound quality) would capture much more than Hugo!

Sure, I can make a distinction between MiSTer cores that are pure vibe coded MAME ports vs. ones that use some mix of LLM and human engineering, but the whole promise of the MiSTer that excited me was reproductions of hardware from sickos who were decapping ICs, not "good enough" emulation on FPGAs
