To be honest I was floored by how much of an impact this made. Increasingly I feel like having a phone is doing a lot more harm than good, but actually being in a large group setting with no service really drove home how much better things could be, even for playing video games together

Once an institution is famous enough, people tend to believe what they claim about themselves. The New York Times is not impartial and truthseeking, and it does real harm on purpose

huh, come to think of it LLMs and "agent harnesses" offer a better framework for dividing responsibility than most software: A conversation trace can be judged by the law as an record of the user's intent, and user culpability tracks perfectly to degree to which the model's actions aligned with it

It's depressing how much of what passes for "intellectual discourse" among the powerful is just adding epicycles to Pascal's Wager in order to keep arguing about it. It's hard not to view this as strongly correlated with their loud and often violent distaste for discussion of any other ethical topic

Feedback latency increases when decisions outpace feedback. The impact: we spend a lot more time climbing the wrong trees, and it costs a lot more to change our minds. There are 2 ways to decrease that latency: 1. Accelerate feedback 2. Decelerate execution 1 is hard to do. 2 is hard to sell.
