If you really think that AI running out of control is a dangerous possibility, then make tech company CEOs legally liable for illegal actions taken by their company's agents.

Hey @ericlipton.nytimes.com 👋 AI is not “evolving” on its own. *People* are choosing how to build it. *People* are choosing how to train it. *People* are choosing how to run it. Maybe the problem is that they are the *wrong people* to make these choices.

My take on COVID "lockdowns" (really, state and local decisions in the face of a killer plague) is that yes they were bad for children and this is an additional reason why it was morally repugnant when huge segments of the population refused to help with social distancing. Shame on you all.

whenever someone tells you that it's simply impossible for police to be charged with misconduct or criminal charges, you can tell they're wrong because some cops do get charged regularly — when they are whistleblowers or reformers prosecutors are actually extremely eager to help drum them out!

Schatz has the same pathology as Newsom: a need to show "I'm just like you" to awful people with bad values. It's not even cynicism; it yields no additional votes. Destroying USAID was an illegal act by white nationalists with genocidal intent and it has killed people. That's more than just "bad."

Sigh. I’ll be a hater and say it: In actual reality, your taxes paid for an illegal crew of naive tech boys, led by a billionaire, and backed by a Corrupt Court, to destroy your gov’t services, hospitals, housing, education, and cancer cures, taking them away from your American family members.

RFK Jr. is actively censoring scientific research to try and rewrite reality.   The COVID vaccine reduced the risk of hospitalizations. That's a FACT. It's supported by SCIENCE.   THIS is why it is so dangerous for a conspiracy theorist to be leading our nation's health.

CDC’s chief blocked a covid vaccine study. Now it’s in a top medical journal.
The study found that the vaccine reduced the risk of emergency department visits and hospitalizations among healthy adults by about half last winter.

Lessons here for the attacks on science too. Compromise with the pro-autocracy, anti-science forces won’t work. They are opposed to core American principles of freedom, equality, education, and a better society for all. Increasing trust comes from telling the truth about what’s really happening.

Agreed. It's not possible to reconcile "rule of law" with "one week the GOP SCOTUS will nullify a 43-year-old statute so they can allow racial gerrymandering, then the next week the GOP VA SC will block voter-approved redistricting and have themselves a laugh by citing the SCOTUS liberals' dissent."

No mention in the headline/subhead that Trump’s takeover plot is wildly unconstitutional. The story is better & discusses GOP election subversion but still doesn’t note a fed takeover is unconstitutional (or that NC’s GOP takeover attempts were ruled illegal until they flipped the NC Supreme Court)

Headline: Trump Wants to ‘Take Over’ Elections. These States are Prime Targets.

Subheadline: President Trump thinks Republicans should control voting procedures in parts of the United States. But where? Here are some possibilities.

Right. The coverage shouldn’t be that the Roberts Court did the right thing today—but that it protected Trump, in clear violation of the law, for over a year. SCOTUS could and should have stopped the tariffs a year ago. Instead it allowed Trump lawlessness.
