Trixter @oldskool.org · 26/09/2026@jerware.org might still have that footage but @mmalex.bsky.social was recovering from illness during the interview and much of it might not be usable. I think everything that was pertinent went into demographics, and the rest left on the cutting room floor. 120

Trixter @oldskool.org · 22/09/2026Thanks for the info. This lines up with my research as well. If I find any exceptions, I'll let you know. 000
Trixter @oldskool.org · 22/09/2026Indeed! But I was referring to your Indianapolis 500 DOS-version launcher. I'm guessing AI helped write a custom emulator (with hooks into data memory locations for monitoring stats) for just that game? 100
Trixter @oldskool.org · 22/09/2026Have you found any DOS-era sims using x87 opcodes? If so, I'd be very curious to know which ones. Falcon 3.0 famously does in their "hi-fidelity" flight model, but most others just used integer math for speed until Pentium systems were more common. 100

Trixter @oldskool.org · 22/09/2026Would love to know how you're achieving this, as a modern CPU in Windows 11 cannot run 16-bit x86 code. Hopefully someday we can get a write-up or an architecture doc, so that others might be able to replicate your success with games in other genres. 100

Trixter @oldskool.org · 07/09/2026"Terms" is doing heavy lifting here. It's not just dictionary words, it's entire digital signal processing concepts that these papers assume the reader is fluent in. Without AI as research assistant, I'd either have to spend months trying to teach myself an unfamiliar field, or go back to college. 200
Trixter @oldskool.org · 05/09/2026That's an excellent find! The DOS version is quite rare; most people have the Windows versions in the familiar Humongous Entertainment white packaging. It's also the first game I ever played with my then-3-year-old son. Taught him how to use a pointing device; helped him communicate (autistic). 140
Trixter @oldskool.org · 05/09/2026The only websites I've encountered that demand legal ID are things like state or local government (like the DMV). I would be very suspicious of any other website with the same requirements. Have you encountered any recently that were not governmental in nature? 000
Trixter @oldskool.org · 31/08/2026I wasn't looking for your approval either :-) but thanks for the explanation and your time. 000
Trixter @oldskool.org · 31/08/2026I feel like I should respond with a sardonic meme graphic, but I'm not very good at social media. 000
Trixter @oldskool.org · 31/08/2026I wasn't trying to convince you to use AI. That said, do you think there are non-evil ways to use the technology that don't make techbros richer, destroy the earth, or steal income from artists? Or should all use of AI, even local models, be universally banned? 100
Trixter @oldskool.org · 31/08/2026It's hard to look stuff up if you don't know the correct term or established terms for what you're trying to look up. This is where AI helps me in scientific and engineering research. Would you be less angry if I told you 50% of my AI usage is with local models on my own hardware? 200
Trixter @oldskool.org · 31/08/2026Example: I can describe a series of data, what has been done to it, and what I want done next, but I can only describe it in non-scientific terms because I am not familiar with the problem domain. AI can take my unrefined description that uses the wrong vocabulary, and point me to the correct terms. 100
Trixter @oldskool.org · 31/08/2026Yes, but this isn't new? Google has ignored robots.txt for decades. We just have 20 Googles doing it now instead of one. This is not directed at you, but breaking social contracts is older than modern history, and I wonder why people are still surprised by it. 100
Trixter @oldskool.org · 31/08/2026If you don't completely understand the concept, sometimes you don't know the specific search terms you need to find the information to explain that concept. 100
Trixter @oldskool.org · 31/08/2026You will when search results prove insufficient in explaining concepts. 100
Trixter @oldskool.org · 31/08/20261. Read paper 2. Paper references unfamiliar concepts and other papers 3a. AI explains unfamiliar concepts when asked 3b. AI retrieves other papers for those to now be read 200
Trixter @oldskool.org · 31/08/2026If the activity is tied to an account, the account can be rate-limited instead of disabled. It's another form of whack-a-mole, I know. 100
Trixter @oldskool.org · 31/08/2026When I summarize research with AI, I have *more* reading to do, not less. It's not a "do it for me" or "give me a one-sentence answer" maneuver. It's a way to find and retrieve the background information I need. 200

Trixter @oldskool.org · 31/08/2026What is your position on using AI to summarize non-fiction material, such as making research papers easier to understand? 200
Trixter @oldskool.org · 28/08/2026I'm a few days out from a fairly nasty flamewar, so I thought maybe it had made additional rounds. 000
Trixter @oldskool.org · 28/08/2026(Checks account) This is one of the funniest AI accounts I've run across in the wild. Thanks for the laugh. 020
Trixter @oldskool.org · 28/08/2026I've seen it enough times I wouldn't need to see it again in IMAX but that sounds very cool. (I own it on 4k UHD.) Anyone who has never seen it really should. First saw it on a bootleg vhs tape in the 80s and it was still crazy impressive. 010
Trixter @oldskool.org · 28/08/2026I don't consider myself part of a movement... I just use it to review code, write boilerplate, and summarize research. I use local models. If you would like a way to blast thousands of dos games onto a system all at once with a menu to launch them, I can direct you to my (non-AI) project. 000
Trixter @oldskool.org · 28/08/2026I was surprised watching your previous video to learn you're doing this with the Amiga version of the game. I would have expected the DOS version since it was first. 000
Trixter @oldskool.org · 28/08/2026One thing I always loved about the third-person view was how you could clock the pre-computed angles, watching the cars snap to certain positions. I didn't view it at the time as janky; rather, I thought it was a great optimization. 100
Trixter @oldskool.org · 28/08/2026Are you hostile to people who use AI for non-creative output, or can we still associate based on things where we are 100% aligned? (Asking because I might have something for you to look at if you spend three hours configuring game menus on every DOS machine you set up, but don't want to anger you) 100
Trixter @oldskool.org · 28/08/2026Oh, I know a lot of people do it just to keep themselves honest and on a schedule, or to keep themselves motivated, or whatever. I just wanted to let you know in case you thought you had to chase the algorithm in a specific way. 110
Trixter @oldskool.org · 27/08/2026I wish bluesky had an edit button. Direct answer, you are right, "this (is) more simplified software that takes care of monotonous coding tasks". 120
Trixter @oldskool.org · 27/08/2026A more refined answer is "it's technically possible, but only people/companies who are rich can do it *exactly* like an unskilled person asking a frontier model to 'do it for them', and everyone else runs models that help a great deal but can't quite do all the work for you." 110
Trixter @oldskool.org · 27/08/2026Yes, but are limited by hardware capacity, so most people currently cannot afford the $$$ to run frontier models that "one-shot" something like "port game to new architecture". What people are running right now are smaller coding-focused models running tasks guided by an actual programmer/architect. 110
Trixter @oldskool.org · 27/08/2026It will, and has been, move to models running on local hardware. 100
Trixter @oldskool.org · 27/08/2026Just FYI, YouTube doesn't value a regular release schedule highly any more (algorithm changes in late 2024). So if you were doing it "for the algorithm", you don't need to. 120
