The sounds come from a several hours long improvisation made from sounds around the place, including the sounds the painter makes while painting. The synthesizer is a cybernetic beast interacting with its environment. www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/mwjss...

Japanese avant-garde artist Motoi Yamamoto meticulously sculpts salt labyrinths inside a 13th century French castle
For Yamamoto, salt is a deeply sacred, ephemeral medium intimately tied to Japanese purification rituals, mourning, and the preservation of memory following the tragic loss of his sister. The staggering, dizzying maze of hand-poured white salt carpets the foreground and mid-ground registers. Squatting on the floor for weeks at a time with a plastic bottle dispenser, Yamamoto has sculpted countless, perfectly uniform, raised ridges of pure salt that twist and turn with dizzying complexity. The pattern mimics the undulating, organic structure of a brain coral, oceanic waves, or a labyrinthine map of interconnected paths. This crystalline lace is laid down directly onto a rich, deep terracotta-red floor surface, providing a stark, high-contrast canvas that makes the bright white mineral grains pop with clinical precision. Running down the right side of the main cluster is a deliberate, winding fractured void of negative space—resembling a river or a crack in the earth—separating the primary labyrinth from a smaller island of patterns on the far right.

As the eye travels up the vertical axis into the background register, the flat, intricate labyrinth undergoes a magnificent structural transformation. At the far end of the stone vault, the fine-line networks dissolve completely, merging into a massive, monumental mountain ridge of solid white salt. This sculpted topography rises with rugged, undulating peaks and deep, shadowed valleys that mimic a snow-capped alpine range or a sacred tectonic landscape.

The architectural framing relies heavily on the severe, rustic geometry of the medieval vault to emphasize the delicate, fragile nature of the artwork.

Farewell to French composer Éliane Radigue (1932-2026) who taught us the radical power of slowness, of patience, and attention stretched to the threshold of perception. Her work will continue to resonate—slowly, endlessly—like a tone that never quite fades.
