Kilauea erupted again yesterday in a fierce display. In only the 2nd time in 40 years, park officials closed the area due to the intensity. Fountains were officially recorded at 500 m high, grapefruit size tephra were being ejected, and tephra fall was measured up to 20 miles away. #volcano #hawaii

A quick summary of 2025 New Zealand earthquakes. GeoNet located more than 21 000 earthquakes in New Zealand and the Kermadec region. Magnitudes range from -0.3 – 6.8 and depth from 0 (just below the surface) – 750 km. 1/ 🧪

Just after midnight on 1 January 2026, a new eruption started from #Etna's eastern flank: a fissure opened at ~2100 m elevation, and a lava flow is descending through the desert-like Valle del Bove. Photos taken in the evening of 1 January from Etna's east and southeast flanks

Still smiling after another amazing visit to Yasur volcano in Vanuatu just over a week ago. We were there to help VMGD install new infrasound microphones in their monitoring network, a vital tool for tracking eruptive activity.
Looking down into a glowing volcanic vent, with a plume of steam and gas rising. All under a cloudy sky with dusk colours. Red hot lava bombs rise out of a glowing volcanic vent during a loud volcanic explosion!

An explosive #eruption of Hayli Gubbi #volcano, located SE of Erta'Ale in the Afar Rift (Ethiopia), began at ~08:30 UTC on Nov 23. Eruption onset was fortuitously captured by a @planet.com overpass at 08:31 UTC. Hayli Gubbi has no record of Holocene eruptions. Toulouse VAAC reporting ash to ~15 km.

Solid advice here but I disagree with the first point for one reason: accessibility. Having text as 2 or 3 short bullet points on your slide will help deaf and HoH folks (such as myself) follow your talk as they might not be able to hear you.

Using earthquake data we image seismic velocity 'anomalies' at 7-12 km depth beneath geothermal systems, north of Taupō, New Zealand. We interpret the anomalies as representing crystal-rich partial melt – the deep heat sources driving the geothermal systems. doi.org/10.1016/j.jv... #seismology

We are still observing some minor ash emissions at Whakaari/White Island. In the past few days, wind directions have meant the plume has travelled towards the mainland but we don't expect any ashfall. VAL remains at Level 3 and ACC at Orange
