I agree. I wish people would sit down and give it at least a five-second think before posting or jumping on the bandwagon. They have to go somewhere, and with any project of any scale, you're not going to satisfy everyone. But does the good outweigh the bad?

Representational voting has only ever made scientific sense in my mind. Is there any other way of fairly dealing with people's votes? The current system is very outdated, as is most things with UK law and politics.

I disagree. AI is a very big area. We need to be more succinct in our definitions. I think as a society we can live without generative music; but AI that is helping fine tune fusion reactions? That seems necessary. AI that helps disabled people? Seems good.

Well, the energy usage and water usage pales in comparison to other industries, particularly metals and mining. But there's no moral outrage against those? I don't think this is particular to data centers. It just happens to be that data centers are the focal point. It boils down to fear of change

I suppose art and music are very much human, they're an expression of humanity; and that's why there's such a push back against AIs creating it. Software isn't an expression of humanity, it's dispassionate, mechanical, often cold, perhaps that's why I feel it's acceptable for me to use AI.

I suppose as well is that a lot of software isn't seeking to be popular; it has a job or a problem to solve. Software is usually not about self expression whereas music and art are; they are passion projects; some software is, but 99% of software is not.

If anything it allows me more space to be creative because I have the freedom to investigate, try out and implement very complex ideas. Software isn't always about originality whereas I feel like music and art is; that's the difference.

Perhaps I feel it's acceptable for me to use AI as I have spent many years writing software and working in the industry. But then writing software is often mechanical; it does not always require the same level of creativity and inspiration that music and art requires.

I don't know why but I feel like me using AI to create software is different to someone using AI to create music, images or animations. I feel a bit of a hypocrite for using it myself, and criticising others that do.

Here's a theory. I wonder if Russia and China find the growth of AI a potential threat to their economies possibly that they cannot keep up with the Western world? And therefore they are spreading misinformation campaigns about AI the same way that they did about 5G and coronavirus.
