One of the most pleasant discoveries of my 2026. The World Cup chat was terrific and college footbaw chat COOKS every Saturday. Being surrounded by fellow sports junkies who also work in/obsess over vidya games feels like a secret society within a secret society. So comfy. Also, Go Canes.

as a native son, if there is a singular city in this country that should not be allowed to EXIST without local reporters holding it accountable, it's Miami (and MBeach.) I cannot imagine a more brazenly corrupt local govt than those and I've in LA for nearly 30 years. They're on another level.

Thought about this a lot over my career, something I'm deeply passionate about. Hired people from all walks of life and the best handful are all over the map. Supermarket. Waiter. After getting your foot in the door, becoming a good tester is no different than any other skilled career. There's constant learning as the underlying technologies, test strategies and gamer tastes constantly evolve. All while trying to identify your own career trajectory and make progress.

and, related: nobody really knows what makes a good video game tester. Maybe ideas or theories at best. I can tell you that the very best of us typically have the same predisposition to being extremely inquisitive; a compulsive personality also helps. But that isn't enough, not even close.

In game testing, knowing how to explain and converse about (the thing) is just as important as knowing how to do (the thing.) Doesn't come naturally to most, but the best testers I've worked all share this trait. Prior retail and/or cust. service experience goes a long way in this aspect.

Futbol commentary just rolls off the tongue better in Spanish. Of course I have a bias, but the transition from a lull in play into the build-up that then leads to a goal just has a specific rhythm that the English language struggles to capture like Spanish does. Very melodic and ear-pleasing.

Floridian here. Learned to swim when I learned to walk. Everyone I knew had access to pools, rivers, lakes, and an ocean. Totally took swimming for granted. We still got ourselves in sticky situations. Anyway, go learn how to swim. It’s fun and healthy and may save your life (or someone else’s!).
