There is also a lot of adaptation we need to undertake to cope with climate change and increasing extreme weather events. Not clear how Australia is preparing for that.. especially places like Torres Strait and of course low lying Pacific islands.

Rethinking ocean alkalinity enhancement
Nature Reviews Earth & Environment, Published online: 06 October 2026; doi:10.1038/s43017-026-00828-5Ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) is often thought of as a global-scale geoengineering approach to mitigate climate change. This Perspective explores the environmental effects, geochemical constraints, verification and governance of OAE and argues for local-scale, context-led evaluation.

Trinity academics call for climate crisis to be declared public health emergency
Two College academics demand that climate change be named a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), warning in UK medical journal The Lancet of unfolding effects on health. PHEIC is a mechanism under the International Health Regulations for extraordinary events requiring a coordinated international response. Enabling it, according to the scholars, would allow better funding and a more organised, institutionalised response.

that's right, of course, but also as a matter of fact we see no significant bending down of the Keeling curve so far (look here: gml.noaa.gov/ccgg/trends/... ), and globally this is the only measure, which matters - therefore the reducing GHG players can't compensate so far the growing ones

Australia experiences second hottest September on record as El Niño and climate crisis combine
Alpine areas also experience record-breaking heat with snow depth recorded at zero in Kosciuszko national park Australia had its second hottest September on record last month as global heating and a strengthening El Niño combined to break a string of heat records around the country. Bureau of Meteorology data showed the minimum night-time temperatures across the continent were also the hottest for any September on a record that goes back to 1910. Averaged temperatures ranked in the top five warmest Septembers for every state, and the sixth hottest for the Northern Territory. Continue reading...
