So the Boltzmann Brain concept is just Descartes Demon by another name… right? Like “a demon could fool you into thinking something false” is logically the same as “you could be a brain floating in the universe only THINKING your perceptions are real.” Just minus the religious arguments on top.

@neuvel.net just finished the Themis Files. Truly stellar work. I had the pleasure of listening to the audiobook production and it was extremely good sci fi. I think my favorite moment was when Vincent says “I never studied French etymology”. I don’t know why, but that tickled me.

The thing that I think a lot of people do miss in the “It’s hard to be a young man” discussion, is that it is hard to be a young man… it’s just not made harder by being a man. The death of third spaces has hit everyone, and many self imposed masculine norms amplify that feeling of disconnection.
