![confirming this. Parton also publicly stated she liked Houston's version of the song better than her own. 14]
Parton recalled that when she first heard the song while driving in Nashville the week of its release that she "just heard this voice come on the radio. It kind of rang a bell, but it didn't hit because she was kind of talking it. Then, all of a sudden, it went into the l Will Always Love You' part and I just about wrecked. I had to pull off the side of the road, seriously, to listen to it." 216]
Parton stated that she was "overwhelmed" and that Houston "made it so much more than it ever would have been."(216][217) In an interview with Howard Stern, Parton added "I couldn't believe my little country sad song could even be done like that. That was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had in my entire life." 29]
Houston told Rolling Stone in 1993, "I think Dolly Parton is a hell of a writer and a hell of a singer. I was so concerned when I sang her song how she'd feel about it, in terms of the arrangement, my licks, my flavor. When she said she was floored, that meant so much to me." 28]](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:srnkqtcpptdtesojmwbgoek2/bafkreigbdy2bzzoyare7f7bcsjadegxge2hr3lhb7lgp5hgr7igyw7vvyy)

DJ Paul: I woke up in my hotel room the next morning with my housecoat on and a bottle of champagne in my hand, and the phone ringing because the Hollywood Reporter or somebody was calling for an interview and taking pictures of us. Then we did some interviews and flew back home.
When we landed there was so many people in the airport waiting for us, there was applause, the minute we stepped off the airplane people started going crazy, it was almost like a little parade at the airport for us. It was crazy.
Juicy J: When we got back to Memphis, Dolly Parton actually sent us a letter congratulating us and signed it, saying she was just happy [the award] came back to Tennessee.](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:ynffljsn62r6x3w6gt3qhxsz/bafkreigwmt37xq7vfbczaisddaip5o6iv25jhwxcwrndglxmwfo7ualeye)
