Beda dog does not see the point of model railroading.
Left foreground, an N scale Nickel Plate Railroad “Mikado” steam engine rounds a curve on an unsceniced part of a layout: right background, a white dog lies on a landing, looking the other direction.

the right to fill the job when it does come vacant, a speculative transaction which is *clearly* not simoniacal. 2/2

It reminds me of the old principle that (iirc) if I had the right to name someone to fill a church vacancy, I could not possibly sell off that right during a vacancy, for selling Church offices is one form of simony. However, when the office is *not* vacant, there’s no objection to selling 1/2

(To underline the contrast: as a private school college counselor and member of NACAC, I had ~10, though I was one of several part-time folk who were also classroom teachers; the full time head of the program had ~50, iirc.)

I often use Fuller and Westberg, _Preaching the Lectionary_, 3rd Edition (2006)—though as the title suggests, it is a commentary on the Eucharistic lectionary, not on the whole Bible, and is specifically aimed at preaching.

Now you have to learn to like Frango Mints. Or hot dogs without ketchup, or that god-awful liquor they serve to unsuspecting visitors (Malört). Imho, Frangos are the easiest--no trouble at all, actually.

Moreover, as for stops of those individuals who are legally in the country, the questioning in those circumstances is typically brief, and those individuals may promptly go free after making clear to the immigration officers that they are U. S. citizens or otherwise legally in the United States.

I remember an Archon from decades ago which had booked two-thirds of one of those divisible ballrooms in a motel up by the airport. The other third was taken by a wedding reception. The fen/mundane overlap in the hallway-lobby was surreal.

At a time in history when the most influential leaders of the U.S. need to stand up loudly and clearly for the rule of law, democracy, and decency, they are leading the charge in the opposite direction — fawning over the most dangerous authoritarian America has ever witnessed. Do not forget this.

This one episode was, in local lore, the reason for the then governor to successfully advocate for putting most of Indiana on Eastern Time year round (i. e., using DST in the summer). As the entire state (& a fair chunk of western Ohio) ought geographically to be in the *Central* Time Zone, 1/2

No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter. Arkansans don't want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I'll always put Arkansas first.

Abolish the Death Penalty. Capital Punishment is abhorrent.
A graphic that has the following text:
“The Episcopal Church has opposed the death penalty since at least 1958.
In 1979, the 66th General Convention reaffirmed this position, calling on dioceses and members of the Church to work actively toward abolishing the death penalty in their states.”

Memorial Church, Harvard: Statue of a mother mourning her son, who lies in armor, with a Harvard shield at his feet, foreground. Names of alumni who died in WWI are engraved on the walls, and there is a red carpet, with a bronze Harvard seal, on the floor. "The sculpture entitled "The Sacrifice,' is the work of artist Malvina Hoffman. It was commissioned by Martha Bacon, the wife of Robert Bacon, Class of 1880, the former ambassador to France, who had served on General Pershing’s staff. The Memorial Room honors more than 360 Harvard students, graduates, and faculty killed in World War I. Photo by Jeffrey Blackwell/Memorial Church Communications"

First go at home canning: marmalade made with rhubarb from the raised bed, two oranges, & an incredible amount of sugar. Lid concavities *seem* to have formed as directed. (Tastes great, but I can’t really tell the rhubarb is in there.)
At left front, on a cutting board of two contrasting woods, a marmalade sandwich in progress; sticking out from under the cutting board, the Ball Blue Book guide to preserving foods; to the right, six pint jars full of orange-brown marmalade.
