12 Days to go, Commanders! #Archrebel is probably the most heartfelt tribute to the classic REBELSTAR and LASER SQUAD games created by Julian Gollop. This demo is a complete short game, and you can easily put 20+ hours into it if you plan to see it all. #gamedev #Indiegamedev

i'm watching turn A gundam and enjoying the thought of how each side would react in their different social forums

a digital illustration in the style of an old political cartoon, labelled "the dark side of the moon". there is a WaDom holding a chunk of "Amerian Land", saying "won't you extend the olive branch?" the WaDom is drawn with cloven hooves and a pointed tail. an earther woman remarks "they are great only in size"

a fake social media post by a user named "Lieutenant Ord's left lens" (handle: "memesaber"). it's a meme with a badass guy holding two rifles surrounded by explosions, captioned "how earther soldiers feel right before being turned into a smell by a mega particle cannon"

i think the most important part of being an adult is learning to bear your crosses without making it other peoples problem. unfortunately, by this metric, the overwhelming majority of grown people are not adults.

i miss the 7th gen, you'd play a cover-based third person shooter as a gritty guy who is like "look out! grunkers!" and then he'd shoot a baddie and say "grunker down! now to plug that grunk hole!" and then you'd run up and tap A to rapidly push over a cabinet

we literally root for charlie brown every step of the way, he is the main character the show has told us to love. he is who we want to see win. and then when lucy pulls the football away, the show is telling us it does not respect our time as a viewer.

so much ink could be and has been spilled about why darkest dungeon worked and darkest dungeon 2 didnt, but the most effective way to convey it is to simply point out that darkest dungeon 2 doesnt even have a damn dungeon.

where do so many people get the idea that rehabilitative justice is when you write an apology, face little to no consequences and then everyone is morally obligated to be fine with being around you. thats not how that works.

even from a hardcore action game POV I think the "test" philosophy needs to be put to rest. Stop testing me bro I already know how to play these games start surprising me and asking me jam along

im lucky im mostly into turn based combat so the "turn every game into a soulslike" trend hasnt hit me too bad. although i also thought that about the "give every game a parry" trend before clair obscur came out, so maybe i should just shut my ass up and not jinx it.

And this isn't about what design patterns are or aren't good liek we have our own tastes, I love me a good Souls boss but also like DON'T FALL INTO THE TRAP OF ORTHODOXY like oh we figured it out THIS is what a boss is! Like no, this is just the current fashion trend!

but now gaming is so Souls-pilled that if you make a game with kinda loose, set piecy bosses, people are going to call that a flaw for........ reasons??? Like when I saw people say Metroid Dread "fixed" Metroid's bosses, like a giant dragon coming out of the ground and shoots platforms was a problem

But it's very limiting. It feels like there is pressure for every boss fight to be A Thing, as if the boss fight is some kind of masochism prize. and it's not even that they're too hard, but in an attempt to 'test your game knowledge', they're often becoming rather rigid.

To hit another modern game dev topic (but in a different thread cause this isn't a 3d/2d thing).. I really feel like we've fucked up the perception of Bosses. It's not that modern bosses are bad, but we're stuck with the 'test of what you learned' gitgud style boss. And tbf we're good at making them

Happy Umi-tober! #umineko #uminekospoilers

Small, one panel black and white comic featuring Lambdadelta, Lion, and Will from Umineko. Lambdadelta is casually holding a bottle of wine and speaking to Battler and Beatrice offscreen. She says "Congrats and thanks for the invite guys! I brought some wine - Oh, and this woke gay couple" In the background, Lion says "I'm not woke" and Will says "I'm not gay" they both look irritated.

the only non-negotiable for writing is you have to read. doesn't matter if you're writing comics, prose, screenplays. read. read books, articles, scripts, comics. fiction and non-fiction. read lots of 'em and never stop reading.
