*stage whisper* Aquinas is not a surname. Putting Aquinas, Thomas in your bibliography makes no sense.

The extreme servility and flattery of AI agents is telling me that a lot of people would really enjoy having slaves and lack the appropriate disgust response to (even simulated) debasement.

Just finished Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South. I see both why she is compared to Austen and why see has not quite the same following. All said, though, it was a solid Victorian novel, and if you enjoy them, you will likely enjoy this one.

I'm reading the @penguinclassicsusa.bsky.social edition of Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South and the editor has chosen to follow every explanatory note with plot spoilers. I would really like to understand these passing Victorian cultural references, but not if you are going to ruin the book.

Did DoD just admit in a court filing that it used xAI's Grok Gov Model to hit the girls' school on the first day of the Iran war? Based on some passages flagged by @rgoodlaw.bsky.social in DoD's recent filing in NAACP's case against X, it looks like it did 1/

SciFi Writers: Make up all the space pronouns you want. Go nuts, I don't care. There's no ideological resistance. But, for the love of God, just tell me how it is supposed to be pronounced. You have to decide anyway for the audiobook, so slide a footnote or parenthetical remark my way. Please.

The funny thing about removing Mormons from the list of Christian denominations and making them their own thing is that there is literally no reason to do that while also leaving JWs as a denomination.

Reading Ursula LeGuin's novel The Dispossessed which was written in 1974 and the way one character justifies atrocious political violence by appeal to traditional masculinity is really underscoring for me how much the present situation follows an old script.

In America you drop your kid off at school, get your brains blown out on the ride home, then the Vice President drops everything for a week to call you a terrorist, to slander your family, to protect the circumstances that led to your death so they can do it again. It is government by Alex Jones.

It's great that reporting on the double tap has spotlighted the abject criminality of this Administration. But don't forget: Venezuela is not waging war on America or Americans, and the men killed were not combatants. The first strike was every bit as illegal as the second.

I think a lot of our fears about AI and the creative arts (I have them too) might also kind of be about society in general, specifically whether the masses are as happy with low grade slop as we fear they will be and what that says about hope for a better future.

If I could always use the preterite form for the past tense while speaking German, I would find it about 70% easier. The constant holding things back for the end of the sentence is exhausting. I need to save that energy for separable prefixes.
